^^So if you had a family of 4-5 and 1-2 dogs where do the dogs go unless you have a covered/window top? I guess you throw the dogs in the bed along with all the gear?

^Realistically my next car would be a Xterra or 4Runner. Everyone seems to have those here. Want a little better clearance / approach angles.

Except that the top 3 selling vehicles in the US are pickup trucks. Perhaps you should embark on a public relations campaign to show all those buyers how wrong they are.

Contextually you knew I was referring to a family of 4-5 with potentially a dog. Are you saying that because the top 3 best selling vehicles are trucks it applies to the average family I was referring to? You don't think companies or industries are impacting the sale of trucks?

Nope. Initially you said:

You complaints about pickup trucks reminds me of all the anti-EV people in the Volt thread. "Don't they know they should buy a Prius or a Yaris instead of a Volt?!?!?!"

You also chopped off my quote:

Quote :
"If you took a bunch of people and gave them the option of a truck or SUV then the SUV might have a little more utility for your average family of 4 with a dog and a bunch of outdoor stuff. I guess that's the only point I was trying to make."

I already admitted I had made a generalization in the last page and clarified my point. I stand by that point. I can reiterate it again if you'd like?

The answer is more vehicles.

Ford Focus ST. I really want to test drive one of these. My mom gets a discount on Ford, Toyota, or Volvo through her job. She can use it twice a year for herself, friends, or family. She already bought a new Taurus 2 years ago and said I can use it when I want to buy a new car. She isn't retiring for 3 1/2 years though. I might hold out a year, or two before buying a new car. If I don't get a Focus then I'll probably get a Fusion.

Focus ST's have been selling below MSRP for a while now, so unless you're picky about options and can get an employee discount I would think that you should be able to buy one for around $20k.

wow really? Something wrong with them or just not what the market is looking for? I think other than the porkiness, it's a pretty sweet whip for someone looking at a GTI/MS3 segment.

The SE and Titanium model hatchbacks are a little over 22k. The ST runs about 25k, and the RS runs about 35k. If I ever get one then I'll get an ST that comes with the 6 speed ST/RS manual transmission and wait till I find one with a sunroof that is a color I like. I have no clue how much I can get off with my mom's discount. I just spent $500 fixing my car (2005 Grand-Am) a few months ago, so I need to drive it for a while yet.

Do you guys actually research this stuff?

Mazda3 cargo room
Behind rear seats: 20.2 cubic ft
Rear with seats folded: 47.1 cubic ft

Mazda CX3
Behind rear seats: 12.4 cubic ft
Rear with seats folded: 44.5 cubic ft

The Mazda3 has a considerably larger rear cargo area than the CX3. 8 cubic feet. And it has a marginally larger passenger compartment as well.

Huh, I didn't know that. Would you recommend the CX-5?

Basically I'm looking for some that has a decent amount of room for cargo/passengers, good gas mileage and moderately priced (25-27k tops)

Eh I wouldn't ever consider a Mazda 3 because there's no AWD. I'd look at the CX-5. Or go drive a Forester XT. They're quite zippy.

Notice how I didn't mention Colorado because when I lived in both Raleigh and Charlotte I went to the mountains quite frequently and often in the winter time. I've done plenty of off road / jeep road driving in the southeast. Rather than making the assumption someone didn't need AWD I said it's a nice to have and something I prefer regardless of where you live.

So sure if you think you'd never need it then don't worry about it.

^^^^^

Check out the Honda HRV or its car version the fit if you want something similar in wheelbase to the CX3 and still want some mega cargo room (with seats down). Neither have as much room as the cx5 though, but they are pretty close for cars that are shorter and prob get better mileage.

im thinking of a RWD sedan, on par with the older inline 6 IS300's.

I just think a lot of cars that are out now, just don't inspire the same feeling.

I really enjoyed that car.

Would like to pick up another one.

I drove one tonight. I liked everything about it except for the bucket seats. They were really tight around my body and kind of uncomfortable. Then I sat in a Focus Hatchback Titanium with normal seats. That was way more comfortable. The Fusion and Edge I sat in were also comfortable too.

Could you get them to swap in a set of non-recaros as a credit option? Or, if time is not of the essence, could you order one not so equipped?

^I don't know, but yesterday I bought a 2016 Focus Titanium Hatchback with a power moon roof and a bunch of other upgrades. I'm happy with that. It's not the end of the world that I didn't get the RS/ST transmission. The Titanium and SE get better fuel mileage anyway. I'm happy with my purchase.

I'm not sure how they have the same transmission as the RS clearly has the xfercase or PTO for RWD but yes he means either the transmission from the RS or the one from the ST.

It's a pretty disappointing vehicle for Honda. It's selling well because of the badge, but it's driving experience is pretty inferior to that of the Fit, upon which it is based. Mazda CX-3 is a better alternative.

The CX-3 seems significantly smaller though.

The CR-V was appealing because of its size and cost. I'm not looking for something that has amazing performance, I don't really treat cars as toys, they're more devices to get from point a to point b. I mean, I drive a Fiesta now
