^^ yep. They totally fucked the dog.

I’m not saying I would have bought one, but I was kicking around the idea until I found out there’s no manual with Sasquatch package. Nope nope nope, that’s a dealbreaker.

the macan gts was a lot better than the base, but I can't see myself paying 50k for such a compromised car. I had no idea the bmw 4 series grancoupe existed and tried a couple of those. the "m-tech" package is a huge difference but the car feels completely numb even with it. these new bmws feel nothing like any bmw I ever owned. I'll probably try a golf R.

Ferrari F8 Tributo is apparently a disappointing car to drive. Totally lacks emotion.

Reviewers say the engine sounds like a 4 banger, the transmission shift logic has fuel efficiency in mind, and the active baffle exhaust allows no manual (or switchable) control. It only opens and closes when it thinks is best. It also sounds horrible because of the particulate emission filters (which aren't required in the US but they're too lazy to separately engineer that).

Ferrari could avoid/ignore all this, but instead just gives in to ridiculous EU regulations.

AMG makes their turbo V8s sound almost as good as their older NA V8s, so one would definitely think any automaker could if they cared.

Tributo is gorgeous, and I'm sure you could "fix it" by installing an aftermarket exhaust with no EU filters and manual control over the butterfly valves (if you want a quiet mode at all). Reflash the transmission shift logic and that should get everything better.

^^ yeah....but...when you buy a new Ferrari, you don’t expect to have to embark on a build to address its shortcomings as a sports car. Plus I wouldn’t want to fuck with any sort of tuner shenanigans l on one unless I had absolute fuck-you money.

Of course, unless I had absolute fuck you money, I wouldn’t buy one over a GT3, anyway. It may be faster, but it’s not more satisfying and enjoyable.

The crappy sound is real, sadly. One of my neighbors has a California model, and while it doesn't have the EXACT same powertrain, it has a 3.9 liter twin turbo V8. When he drives around at neighborhood speeds 20-30 mph, the car sounds like a 90s civic with an ebay turbo on it.

^^ wasn't talking about new vs used, or anything used for that matter.

I'm saying that if you go buy a new Ferrari, you expect it to goddamn-well be a Ferrari.

...and there's fuck-you money where you buy a new Ferrari...and then there's the kind of fuck-you money where you don't give a shit if you have to spend a bunch of time and money to get the exhaust note right on your new Ferrari--you don't care if such a storied automater didn't get it right even at a stratospheric price...and you don't give a shit if you void the warranty on your new Ferrari--you want it to sound right...and you don't want, I don't know, a five-year old 458...and you don't want a McLaren, and you don't want...well, you get the idea. You want a new F8 Tributo, and you don't give a fuck what it costs, or if you spend another $20k getting it to sound right, or if you void the warranty and eat another $80k or whatever on an engine replacement--you don't give a fuck about any of it other than you want what you want, end of story--and any cost is simply academic.

Yeah, if you're in the buying-a-Ferrari-is-like-buying-a-sandwich club, then fuck it. I totally get it, dude...do what you want. I would, too.

Co-worker said her dad was selling a 2013 18k mile 911 Turbo S for $60k. Broke out the check book and wrote it out, asked where to send it and when I could pick it up.

It was a Carrera

test drove a ferrari FF today, thinking it'd be the ultimate daily driver. the interior was junk (knobs falling off, jbl stereo from a camry, shifting paddles somehow worse than my audi, and the hatch was on the order of a fiesta in terms of space. even with an aftermarket exhaust, the exhaust was really quiet until 7000 or so. it also had no torque until 7000 either, which is surprising with 6+L of displacement. up top it was a proper animal, but the car had been fit with the 21/22 wheel option that had no sidewall so cornering at speed was mostly terrible. I can't remember the last time I was more disappointed in a car.

since last night I have been thinking about all those Grumman LLVs that are about to hit the auction block

mail trucks

they're on a modified Chevy S-10 chassis

how dumb would it be to put a big lift on one and do a front axle and driveshaft swap to make it 4x4?

Don't get me wrong, the thing looks awesome and the roadster (or black top) helps break it up nicely.

I just like the 812 (and Ferrari's other mid-engine offerings) shape and design a bit more.

RAV4 Prime

I'm thinking about buying one soon. It hurts my head to buy a brand new car, especially one that I think is boring and not appealing in any particular way, but it is basically the only thing that can tow any useful amount of weight and get really good efficiency for my long commute at a reasonable price.

...and used cars cost as much as brand new ones right now.

[Edited on April 11, 2022 at 12:11 AM. Reason : sometimes cost even more than new cars right now. total insanity.]
