we learned about stuff like this in general microbiology- at the time, the last local fatal case was several years prior (wanna say lake jordan). Kid took a face dive when wake boarding, and by the time they realized what was up, he was pretty much on his way out. Scary stuff, but super rare

I went camping with some people that were swimming in a lake and bringing the mud from the bottom up for "mud treatments". I told them amoebas were going to eat their faces like that kid from Georgia, but no one believed me.

I've been the last few years (up between Atlantic Beach and Emerald Isle) and beasted it when most everyone else was afraid to get in the water

but GD, like I saw the first attack a month ago or so and I'm like OK so that was bound to happen
