Has anyone got this done?
How many times do you have to get an area done for it to work? 8/20/2011 10:33:32 PM |

If you're going to make a joke, just do it and get it over with.
I'm going to have the procedure done anyway.
If nobody has had it done and you'd like to know if it works after I'm done, plz send me a pm. 8/21/2011 4:29:14 AM |

The number of treatments needed entirely depends on the courseness, thickness, and color of hair as well as the area itself. If you have super fine blonde hair that isn't thick in your armpits, it could take as little as two treatments. If you are a hairy dark beast on your back it'll probably take more than three. 8/21/2011 8:09:19 AM |

If u have blond hair it ain't gonna work. otherwise, sons medspa sells 7 treatment packages and that's about what u need. I got my back done and I used all 7. A year after it was done, there were still a few hairs left, but they were much thinner and not that noticeable. Also its going to cost u about 1250 for a large area like that. Smaller areas like armpits are 200-400 8/21/2011 8:22:27 AM |

that's just what they explained to me at sona and from what i researched myself. Ok so maybe not 100% NOT going to work, but it's def not as effective to blond hairs.
the laser itself is a yttrium aluminum garnett laser (YAG) that responds to a specific color wavelength that is identical to your hair color follicle. As you scan across your body, when it reaches a dark hair, the laser will shoot a pulse into the follicle which removes/kills the hair and closes the follicle up and no new hair growth that comes through. The darker your hair is, the easier it is for the laser to detect the pigment color and zap the follicle. The lighter it is, the more difficult it is for the laser to spot it. Therefore, if you have light blond hair, it will be less effective, either by not working or taking longer to remove the hair completely.
If the laser was tuned to respond strongly to light blond hairs, it would also respond to your skin color and hurt/burn more. For this same reason, they tell you not to tan at all while you are getting treatments. The stronger contrast between your skin color and your hair color, the easier it is for the laser to detect the hair and remove it
The second factor is your hair growth stage. They say there's 4-5 stages of hair growth, so you have to go back at least that many times to permanently remove the hairs. Sona throws in an extra 2 sessions on top of that for good measure to get rid of anything remaining. I have dark hair, and despite that I went all 7 sessions, I still have some back hair, although it's significantly less than before I had any treatments. So it's not 100% effective. I'd say around 80-90% total hair removal. The hair that's left is much finer, thinner, and if you shave it, it's much slower to grow back

This is where groupon really kicks in. They were selling 3-treatment deals: "small area" for $99, "medium area" for $149, and "large area" for $199. I bought two of the large area for a total of six treatments. Saved about $2000.8/21/2011 11:43:58 AM |

I had a helluva problem with what was diagnosed as ingrown hairs and had 3 treatments to my neck-beard area. 7 years later and I can't tell I ever had it done. 9/27/2011 8:06:29 PM |

Does this mean the hair & ingrown issue returned or that it was so successful that you can't tell there was ever hair? I'm assuming the former but the "I HAD a problem" is messing me up.9/28/2011 7:44:42 AM |

I've thought about doing this as well. I fucking hate shaving. As a black person with coarse curly facial hair, folliculitis occurs with the slightest fuckup, and I can't grow a beard anyways. I tried Bevel and it works pretty well but if I'm going to pay for a service to mail me specialized negro shaving shit I might as well say fuck it and just get that shit removed.

also. I would be VERY reticent to do something like this on my face. especially if I was black (given what was discussed earlier re: the contrast of the skin/hair)9/10/2014 2:08:34 PM |
