3 months.

got a hand-signed letter from the commissioner of something-or-other telling me it was revoked, along with a new plate and instructions to send back the old one.

never sent the old one back. i either get my $30 back, or i'm keeping the damn thing.

Yeah, I would ask for the $30 back. I've always thought of getting a personalized plate but have no idea what I would put on it.
