Its reminded me of star wars the whole time because I always thought star wars was so unrealistic the idea that a ragtag group of rebels could take on an empire with handmade spaceships (pickup trucks) and untrained kids/solo was a stretc but this thing seems almost exactly like it if you ignore nato.
Also there was another movie where someone was a God (I think it was ancient egypt but could be wrong) and all the rebels/slaves ambushed the capital and when the God came out they all bowed to him and layed down their arms. That kind of reminds me of what is going on now since the rebels rolled right into tripoli, captured saif and now saif is freely being escorted around by rebels claiming victory.
Also, its pretty crazy how 65,000 fighters could just vanish. This reminds me of a heist or bank robbery movie like the town where they all blend in with hostages once the cops arrive and then escape forever or come back later to get the money (inside man/clive owen).
Then its scary and some old story similar to something like a reverse trojan horse where you let your enemy straight in and then destroy the city. This is what gadhafi could be doing and its a scary thought since he has stockpiles of mustard gas/WMD. 8/22/2011 7:46:32 PM

Look. That's too many words about a thread about Libya. Cut your shit down or provide a TLDR section. Know your audience. We don't want to feel like we are IN Libya when we read your verbose post. 8/22/2011 7:52:13 PM

The rebels weren't using handmade spaceships. Their spaceships were better and more expensive than Imperial ships, they just didn't have as many. 8/22/2011 7:54:55 PM

you mean like the x wings and lasso ships vs thai fighters?
Solo's ship was old as fuck and just fast but barely worked and it did damge in battles. ewoks took out walkers with fucking logs. rebels took out HUGE walkers with cables. Simple shit taking down dominant emperial weaponry.
They had a friggin death star for heavens sake picking off planets one by one. 8/22/2011 8:01:15 PM

which brings the question. what kind of propulsion system did the death star have to get that son of a bitch to blow up said planets? 8/22/2011 8:05:42 PM

Yeah the x-wings and a-wings were way better than tie fighters.
The snowspeeders took out a few AT-ATs but the rebels still lost that battle and had to retreat.
The ewoks took out like 2 AT-STs, which are like the Star Wars version of humvees so it's not as impressive as you might think, but they were still about to be massacred before Chewie stole one. 8/22/2011 8:07:11 PM

That's what you thought was unrealistic? Not the whole fighting in space thing?

^^ All of that stuff is established as real within the setting itself and can be taken at face value and treated as realistic, at least within the movie.
In the star wars universe, lightsabers, the force, faster than light travel are all real so showing those things is perfectly realistic within the setting, it would actually be far more unrealistic if there was someone using a device that exists in our world but has never been seen and wouldn't logically exist in theirs.

lightsabers are considered an old art in star wars anyway. simply a noble way of hand to hand combat. 8/22/2011 11:57:05 PM

tie fighters don't even have shields
of course incom fighters with four cannons, shields, and hyperdrive could roll over some tie fighters 8/23/2011 1:50:40 AM
