"LONDON -- Amy Winehouse had no illegal drugs in her system when she died, and it is still unclear what killed the singer, her family said Tuesday.

The family said in a statement that toxicology tests showed "alcohol was present," but it hasn't yet been determined if it contributed to her death.

The 27-year-old soul diva, who had battled drug and alcohol addiction for years, was found dead in her London home on July 23, and an initial post-mortem failed to determine the cause of death."

Yeah right

I believe it.

Drugs are bad for your health even if you aren't using them.

And they're especially bad if you generally don't take care of yourself otherwise...like eating food with modest nutritional value.

I knew you could get seizures from not drinking. But you can get that from drinking, too?!?!

That stuff is the devil.

They wouldn't be "legal" prescription drugs if they were abused to the point of COD. That would then be illegal use of a controlled substance, right?

It is possible that multiple doctors unwittingly prescribed lethal amounts of drugs, right?

But even a single doctor that would prescribe her anything outside of Lunesta and maybe a small dose of anti-anxiety meds is seriously unethical.

If they were prescribed to her no news outlet would claim they were illegal. They don't dole out prescription meds one day at a time, so it wouldn't be surprising if she overdosed on a month's supply or a combination of several drugs. Furthermore, one can easily overdose on the meds used to prevent withdrawal from harsher drugs.

That said, I call b.s. on this statement from the family. I'm pretty sure they know exactly what killed her by now and they're opting not to release it. That's certainly their choice, but there is no point in making public statements if that is the case.

It's not uncommon for people just to tell everyone their child had a heart condition or something similar in these situations. The stigma of having a family member overdose and the fact that they don't want to tarnish the name of the deceased is a powerful thing.

yes, alcohol induced.
i dont know the specifics but i just remember reading report on that.

i don't think it really applies to the general population though.
i think i remember seeing it being more probable for people with epilepsy and who are already prone to seizures.

Mmmm...there's a strong possibility that's still the case.

I have a friend who is prone to having seizures in general. One thing that is he figured out is that some of them happened the day after a night of drinking. He no longer drinks at all, but even back then he was a very occasional drinker, so it became pretty obvious that the alcohol had some kind of seizure causing effect on him.

Well, she was emaciated and filthy, and she also had bulimia. Streetwalkers take better car of themselves than she did. No telling what kinda infections/viruses she had or how her systems were acting...

^That's crazy!!!
