My roommate does this, likes the solidarity I suppose.

That or he values the alone-time to build upon his destructive plans.

I would be more likely to pity someone eating alone at a sit down restaurant than at a fast food place, but either way it's not a big fucking deal.

you've got your shit backwards... a ClassicMixup some might say

Sit at the bar. I do it all the time.

Just don't let the other patrons have the satisfaction of seeing you cry.

I think it is pretty attractive to see a female content with eating by herself in a restaurant. Makes me want to go hang out with her. Women these days don't like to go to the bathroom alone, let alone go out to eat alone

it's way sadder to see parties of two at a KFC. like two people who are dating that went to KFC for dinner. or even worse a family having a sit down meal at KFC. that shit is sad.

I go to eat alone sometimes... I want to go to dinner by myself sometime soon just to get over my anxiety with it but I have progressed to eating lunch alone so I feel pretty accomplished

and sometimes it isn't by choice.

sike, I DID eat dinner by myself recently! some people stared :\

I'm not afraid of being alone. I just don't want to be. I enjoy people's company. I get my alone time sitting in traffic and while I'm crapping. Guess eating has always been something that was meant to be a shared experience (like going to a movie). I want to share in the good food or movie. Make sense?

Also, I'll come break bread steak with you qntmkenneth. Hold the bloomin onion though

Why does a movie have to be a shared experience?

I've done that before, too... Finding Nemo, bitches

[Edited on August 29, 2011 at 11:37 PM. Reason : and I'm tempted to go sometime this week to see a movie]

I absolutely relish going to movies alone
I sit behind the handy-abled bar with my feet up

I don't mind eating alone, I just don't like eating in front of other people particularly and I get completely freaked out if I'm the only one still eating. This often prevents me from eating out somewhere alone.

I like discussing previews and movies as soon as I see them. Guess I think the discussion is that much better when I have people to share it with

^2 I think that's what makes me anxious at first, too... knowing others might be watching me eat - don't like that feeling

as for movies, it's not like you're talking during them (at least you better not be or at least not a lot), so what's wrong with going alone?

Yeah nothing irritates me more than talking during a movie. Especially a horror movie, I get royally pissed.
Which is why I usually sit up front.
The fuckers talking are usually in the back

^^we need a thread dedicated to ranting about people talking or on their phones during movies

I'll be that guy that can't concentrate when people are yapping or flipping through their texts and will tell the person to put it up and shut up. This usually ends up making a bigger fuss out of the whole thing but I absolutely can't stand people that come to a movie and the don't watch it One of the only things that will make me flip my shit.

Wish 'murica would catch on to the whole you don't get up during a movie deal like some European countries where you'd be told to stay out.

^my pic was referring to old people looking sad while eating alone, not fast food dining. My google image search skills are lacking tonight and I couldn't find a good representation of a sit down meal of loneliness.

Get fast food and eat while you drive, or just eat while you crap.

^^ Just say "dude."

Kind of reminds me of a two girls in front of my friend and I watching star trek. We made a comment to each other and she turned around and bitched at us, which to do so required her to set her cell phone down and stop texting with her bright fucking LCD screen on max...

Extrovert vs introvert itt.

Extroverts need to talk to someone all the time or they cry like little girls.

Why?

A family having a sit down meal anywhere is a good thing these days.

They're lucky, even if the best they can do is KFC.

I'm a total introvert. I occasionally disappear for a few days of solo camping, hiking, beach fishing, or whatever on zero notice because I get fed up with shit and have to do it to save my sanity. Still, I feel weird eating out alone. I got semi-comfortable eating at fast food restaurants solo when I had a delivery job back in the day, but anything more than something like lunch at Noodles & Co. just doesn't work.

I think it depends on the restaurant. I don't really think anything of someone sitting alone at Bojangles or Coopers. But if you're alone at Kanki or Second Empire I shed a little for you.

I eat lunch alone pretty much every weekday. Sometimes it's nice to have the quiet, plus I always bring a book to work with me so I read while eating.

If it was somewhere fancy I would feel a little odd though. The few times I've traveled for work, I usually sit at the bar while eating dinner, as being a party of one in a sit-down restaurant does feel strange.

The funny thing about this is that the only people that think it's awkward to eat by yourself, are people that are extremely insecure and socially inept.
