I got rear-ended a few weeks ago and got it repaired at a local body shop. When I picked the car up, they told me not to use an automatic carwash for the next 90 days since they put new paint on it.
I have a membership to a carwash place as I live in a condo and don't have a hose to do it myself. Anyone know if the 90 day estimate was valid or if it's ok to take it to a carwash? 8/30/2011 12:26:40 PM |

A quick handwash using a good soft cloth or mitt and carwash soap will be infinitely better for it than any automatic car wash. I'd prefer to let it set up for even longer than that before being subjected to mechanical abuse. And NO WAX!
The body shop folks do know what they're talking about. Be kind to your new paint. 8/30/2011 12:39:04 PM |

Good to hear, just wanted to make sure on the timeline. I'll have to find somewhere to hand wash it since I don't have a house/house/etc. 8/30/2011 12:40:19 PM |

hand washes >>>> automatic car washes
but I understand the difficulty of that for people that don't have driveways. 8/30/2011 12:58:51 PM |

Yep, automatic car washes are da devil.
However, I can hand wash it for you for a small fee
