Both the Leesville and SE Raleigh reunions are $40/person. Whatever happened to holding it in the gym and charging a $10 cover? I wonder what other area high schools are charging these days.

lol me and begonias' reunion was $70/person.

i think 10 people showed up.

[Edited on August 30, 2011 at 1:43 PM. Reason : this was for last year's reunion. they wanted to be "fancy" and have it at Wakefield]

My reunion for Apex High last year was like $50 or something. I understand the need to pay for rental fees and stuff, but nthx. I just didn't go

wtf yeah that shit is ridiculous. I can think of a lot better things to do with $40, like go to dinner at a nice restaurant instead of getting crappy food at a reunion

well i was annoyed because they gave 2 options: have it in Louisburg or at Wakefield. well obviously no one wants to freakin go to Louisburg so everyone picked Wakefield. i don't know why other options were not looked into - there's a ton of places that i feel would have been a much better choice (financially) than Wakefield.

Ours was $60 per person

I didn't go

but it never happened. Our SBP that was organizing it took the money from everyone that paid and went to Hawaii.

Last I heard there was a lawsuit, but I have no idea.

I think if the reunion had been $10-20 I would have gone just out of curiosity. Apparently the organizers didn't pay attention in class when we were learning supply and demand

Same reason people watch Jerry Springer, curiosity

I think if I were organizing a reunion, I'd just tell everyone to show up at Fullsteam Brewery on a Saturday and call it the day.

I was good enough friends with maybe 5 people in High School that I'd want to see again and I keep u with them enough of Facebook that a reunion is totally unnecessary.

i think reunions have lost their appeal with the increase in social media. like puck_it said, if you wanted to know what someone was doing you can check it out on facebook

Mine was tailgating prior to a football game, contribute food for the grill if you like and byodiscreetbeer. Before the game was over, which no one bothered to go into, we went to a bar. /classy

But what if they don't remember you and don't add you back and their wall is private

Or what if you're like me and you don't add people from high school unless you were good friends with them in the first place?

^ Sounds a lot better than what most schools are doing this year.

then why would you want to see those people then?

i just don't get the appeal. i only went to high school here for 3 years and most of the people i graduated with had been together since elementary school so i guess the bond with them was a lot closer.

yeah plus I'd just assume not relive being around all the assholes just to satisfy a mild curiosity about acquaintances who I wouldn't ever see except for reunions.

My high school has large get togethers every year where basically any class that is old enough to drink is welcome.

[Edited on August 30, 2011 at 1:56 PM. Reason : I would not pay $40 to attend]

If anything I'd be more interested in seeing some of my old high school teachers. My little sister has the same physics teacher as I did back in 2002 too so I might go say hi to him over Thanksgiving or something.

I think it's interesting to see how people have changed in 10 years when you've had zero contact with them. Who has become successful that you didn't expect? Who has turned into a burnout druggie that you didn't see coming? Stuff like that. So if the reunion were cheap or free, it'd be worth it to get a brief glimpse into the lives of these people that directly or indirectly impacted your life. But for $40 I'd rather do about a million other things

yeah but that's why facebook is awesome because i can tell that about 80% of the people i graduated with are burned out losers who have done jack with their life, 15% have at least 3 kids and the other 5% actually did something with their life.

I don't know, I just don't see Facebook as being the same. Mostly because it's a super concentrated form of whatever that person wants you to see. I feel like seeing the person in real life is more telling and interesting.

I think mine was like $65 and that covered a room at the community college and a fried chicken plate. I'm pretty sure there was some embezzling going on.

^^ i'll tell you this. if i didn't really know you or like you in high school i'll either ignore you or i'll be the fakest bitch in the world to you. so take your pick

i prefer to not be fake to people and pretend to care about them or their boring lives just like i don't really want them to hear about my life.

i'm currently in the midst of setting one up for my class. we're renting out an entire bar just for ourselves from 6-9pm and it's catered. people can feel free to keep hanging out after 9 if they wanted to. we had a deal going where it was like $60 for 2 people if you bought in the first month, and that didn't have to be a date or anything; two random classmates could team up and get a ticket for 30 each (trying to get as many classmates there as possible).

people were still outraged things cost money.

lol well yeah if you're a bitch to people then I could see why reunions wouldn't appeal

^ I think it's because people don't care about it being a private room, fully catered, etc etc. People would be just as content if you had it at Big Boss or Mac's and everything was a la carte.

my whole point of using facebook in lieu of a reunion was not for stalkeration... but i can keep in touch with people. i can send them a message and strike up a conversation. there is no "long lost friend" any more.

Yep. I stay in touch with my good friends from high school and I see the sort of good friends once a year over the holidays. I'm not paying $40 to see a bunch of shitheads that never left home.

^^^^ You probably wouldn't talk to those sorts of people at a reunion in the first place. But I can think of plenty of people I was friendly with in classes, but not friends, that I vaguely remember now, that would be worth talking to over a beer. A lot of those people aren't on Facebook or I don't remember their names.

^^ I think you'd be surprised I just found out from a friend that apparently my high school is also doing some picnic in Pullen Park or something that has more people signed up for it than the actual reunion

NBHS Class of '01 was "Tickets are 45 and couple is 85" but it was just cancelled. Today was the due date for money and they said only 3 people sent their's in. lol I'm not surprised. The whole thing was organized by someone I never heard of and everyone posting in the Facebook group were people I had never heard of. It would be nice to go but it was just going to be dinner at The Flame.... lol I'd like it if it was done and organized better, like a fun party, but I dont want to drive down to NC to have dinner with people I don't know at all

well when you charge $70/person no one you really want to see ends up going

at least that's how it was at our reunion.

I kinda like remembering HS friends as permanently being 18. Its depressing to think of those same people with receding hairlines, real jobs, families and all the other real world BS. I prefer them to exist only as memories, reminders of a simpler time. Kinda like when someone dies young...you always remember them as the age they died, not how old they would be now.

mine is $35 pp which includes a signature drink, wine & beer (other mixed drinks are cash bar), buffet dinner & appetizers, location and DJ.

but I won't be able to go wedding that same weekend. I'm surprisingly bummed about it. I never thought I would want to go, but having seen some over the past few years at various things (like weddings! ) I've realized it would be really fun to see everyone together again.

they are also getting together the day before for the homecoming game and going to a bar after where you're on your own.

I went to a high school with a graduating class of 100 people. 10 of those people have made something of their lives. Those are my friends. The others are volunteer firemen who work at a cigarette factory.

see my parents moved away from the town i grew up in. I have no real connection to my hometown anymore and rarely go home for anything. Something like this reunion is the only thing that would bring me back.
