By making this thread, you've really shown how to be a shining example of taking the high road.

But then again, that's how you evangelicals tend to roll.

Ok, I'll judge myself for it. Since you brought my faith into it.

"A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes."

Proverbs 18:6

I am a fool for seeking to contend. Mind you I meant it as a joke. But since you are so quick to damn evangelicals as judges, I guess I'll need to address this further.

Since you find my jest contrary to my nature instead I'll just start posting the Gospel:

"I will start with Genesis 3:15 and Psalm 89. I actually recommend reading Mathew Henry's commentary of Gen 3:15 but I will briefly summarize it here as it is one of the most important promises emphasized in the Bible. In Genesis 3:15 God passes judgement upon man and the serpent, after the temptation of Adam and Eve. He states "I will put enmity between the and the woman, between her seed and they seed; he shall crush thy head, and thou shalt crush his heel." The first thing declared is that enmity will be between the woman and the snake and their respective seeds. From the beginning we see a separation between righteousness and sin, the seed of the woman is Christ and the seed of the serpent is Satan(obviously not the actual "seed" of the serpent, but this is what is meant here). Now we know that Satan has the power of Death, meaning that "the wages of sin is death" and sin is of Satan. So what is initially established is the conflict between Sin and Death and Righteousness and Life. Following that is the initial promise of salvationgiven freely to those who would believe in it. It is stated here in "he shall crush thy head." This is a prophetic statement as to the coming of Jesus Christ who has conquered sin and death and become the "firstborn from the dead." The righteousness of Christ has conquered the power of death and thus crushed the head of Satan, eventually leading to Satan's destruction after the Great White Throne judgement. In Psalm 89 we see prophesied the triumph of Christ over sin and Satan:

"No enemy shall exact upon him nor the son of wickedness afflict him;
But I will beat down his adversaries before his face, and will smite them that hate him."

Now surely Christ suffered from his oppressors on Earth, but what is spoken of here is something far greater than worldly oppression. Jesus Christ did not ever suffer from the one thing which truly hurts a person; Sin. Thus Christ conquered sin, for he resisted the temptation of Satan and conquered the power of death.

When reading Psalm 89 it is important to understand how the message within relates to the entire Church. Jesus Christ is the Head of the church, as the "firstborn highest of the kings of the Earth." The saints however are the body of the Church, unlike Christ we are not perfect through our own means:

"Confide in Jehovah with all thy heart, and lean not unto thine own intelligence" Proverbs 3:5

It is always clear throughout the Bible that man cannot save himself. Even though the law was established, we must remember the importance of Word of God:

"And now, if we will hearken to my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then ye shall be my possession out of all the peoples" Exodus 19:5

Now the covenant of salvation from God was not the Ten Commandments or all the book of the Law, these were the commandments of God at the time of Israel. This is not to say that the Israelites were wrong in their actions, because they were performing the will of God so long as they "hearkened to my [God's] voice indeed." What many fail to realize (especially today) is that no one can be saved by works.Throughout the Old Testament there are many references to God "reckoning according to righteousness."God redeems his saints according to their faith in the promise of salvation, before the blood of Christ (as the Word of God had not yet taken on flesh.)

This discussion brings us to the next point in Genesis 3:15. That the seed of the serpent should crush the heel of the Son of Man.

"And I will establish his seed for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven." Psalm 89:29

Here we see the description of the Body of the Church, the saints; we are given of the salvation of God through the redemption through Christ. We are part of the Holy Church which has Christ in glory as the Head. Because of Christ we ourselves have the redemption that is given through Christ. However, we are not as he was on Earth and can still backslide by temptation of sin. And because of this God does chastise us at times because the heel of the Holy Church is bruised by the temptation of the wicked one. However, even though at times we backslide, the Holy Church is established for ever, "on this rock I will build my assembly, and Hades' gates shall not prevail against it." Matthew 16:18.

"If they profane my statues and keep not my commandments:
Then I will visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes." Psalm 89:31-32

God promises to chastise those who backslide in ways of transgression, yet he also promises to not bring a full end to any of the saints or salvation:

"Nevertheless my loving-kindness will I not utterly take from him, nor belie my faithfulness" Psalm 89:33.

We see here that The Church is established for eternity and nothing can ever bring Death to the saints or Christ Jesus. In this respect the head of the serpent is already crushed, though the Church must endure the injury of its heel until the end of the age. I might also add that none of us can increase our righteousness above what has already been given. We have achieved perfection through the precious blood of Jesus Christ. A lifetime of good works could not save us, nor can it increase our righteousness past the perfection which has already been achieved. Even if our heel is crushed we cannot repair the breach ourselves but must rely and have faith in God to do this for us.

"Let us hear the end of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole of man."

Much more fitting.

Now often Christian people are overly judgmental and don't wish to expound to anyone the truth of reconciliation or even to help people realize trespass. They seek to exalt their state by condemning the state of others. Sometimes people will ask me how I feel about things like abortion, military service, homosexuality, etc, but it is difficult for me to weigh on in these matters because I am not a qualified judge.

In my vanity I sought to condemn El Nachó for exalting himself but I myself was rightfully condemned for raising contention. To raise contention is trespass, and clearly stated according to scripture.

What should really be addressed is the evangelicals that most people have to deal with on a somewhat frequent basis. I cannot separate myself from the brickyard preachers because they claim salvation, which would mean their lot is in with mine in the church of Christ. Surely, I disagree with some of their methods and fear mongering, which goes against the teachings of Christ.

The first act is always a call to repentance; but telling people they are going to hell is an act of judgement not a call to repentance. One most accept that they have done something wrong in order to receive forgiveness for it.

Thus you see the state of most saints, who can only become perfect in their ways and works at death. Until then we shall always struggle against the sin which presides in the flesh.

Hence the phrase:

"Watch and pray, that you enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

Matt 26:41

The epistle to the Romans clearly addresses the state of the saint, and how they are still saved, though at times they trespass in the flesh.

Man. Now I'm kind of curious what the OP originally said. And there's no fucking way in hell, I'm about to read all that religious mumbo jumbo. I did read the part right after my name about how you think I'm exalting myself, which I will address (again).

I don't necessarily think of myself as being better than anyone in particular. Yes, I know for a fact that my intelligence is above average, but I'd like to think that on a college message board that puts me among my equals in most regards. I know there are a lot of intelligent people on here, otherwise I wouldn't be entertained at all and wouldn't be bothered to read or post. Regardless of what you've said about me, I don't think I'm better than everyone else, and I challenge you to show me where I've said otherwise

However, as I've stated, there are several people on here that set the bar very very low. It's certainly not an achievement to be "better" than people like merbig, or BlackJesus. These are clearly bottom feeders of society, or at the least people that pretend to be that way on the internet to garner attention.

I'm not sure why you seem to be so bent out of shape over it, perhaps it's insecurity on your part. But if you can't see why I would consider myself better than someone who's first reply to a confrontation is to start tossing out racial slurs, then I do question your intelligence. It seems pretty obvious to me that people like that most likely aren't capable of intelligent discussion and thus aren't worth my time. If you feel the need to defend them, that is your right, but don't be surprised if that makes me think you're no better than they are.

Yeah, the first message was meant for an audience of saints, but it is sound doctrine. The second comment is what I addressed to BobbyDigital.
