No access to powertools...hacksaw isn't going to cut it. Suggestions? Do they not maksomething similar to copper spin cutters for pvc? How about a pull saw? Will that work significantly better than a hacksaw and give me a relatively good cut?
I was looking at the ratcheting pvc cutters, but I don't want to throw money down on one if it wont cut 2-2.5" pipe worth a shit. 8/30/2011 11:42:38 PM

cutters are cheap and work really easily, they'll more than likely cut a 2" piece... try it out, you can return them if they don't work...
other than that, lol melt a wire and pull it through the pipe? 8/30/2011 11:44:41 PM

Yes, but you could be holding one made by makita, for instance, and still be asked for the "sawzall". Its a fucking reciprocating saw. 8/30/2011 11:58:36 PM

Because "reciprocating saw" is too fucking long. Do you call hook and loop fasteners "Velcro?" I'll bet you do, redneck.
Anyway, where i work it's Milwaukee power all the way. 8/31/2011 12:00:43 AM

They make PVC blades for this bad boy:

Or go with the reciprocating saw. In either case get a quick release clamp or two so you're not losing fingers and blaming us. 8/31/2011 12:02:14 AM

Well, you have a couple of options. As mentioned, you could use a reciprocating saw, or as those of us familiar to the industry would call it, a sawzall. Of course the easiest way to cut it would be by using a simple ratchet-style cutter available at most hardware stores.
Another option would be to also cut the pipe with a hack saw. To make a straight cut, place the pipe into a miter box. Then wedge a piece of scrap wood between the pipe and the side of the miter box to brace it securely. Cut on the inside edge of your pencil mark.
Finally, you could just use a pvc pipe cutting jig, as described here: http://www.pvcworkshop.com/ToolPlansSet.htm 8/31/2011 12:49:47 AM

If you really can't use power tools then pick up some pvc shears and pray that your grip strength is up to par for that much cutting Or if you have a flame/torch take thebxmone's suggestion and heat up a saw or wire blade before cutting. I've even used twine in a pinch before but I do not recommend doing that more than once 8/31/2011 5:15:06 AM

Umm a regular hand saw always worked fin for me. I mean it cuts like butter anyway, but I'd say other than a reciprocating saw (sawzall?) a regular wood hand saw would ve your *hot knife* 8/31/2011 5:15:46 AM

A hacksaw works fine for this. I have cut a shit ton of PVC with a hacksaw and never had a problem. if you have to cut a ton of it, build a jig so the blade doesnt bind from you moving the pvc around as you cut it. Also rotate the pvc within the jig as you cut it so that the uncut surface is at the top of the jig. Check to see if your blade is installed to cut on the push stroke or the pull stroke and cut accordingly.
or borrow a chop saw and get it done 10X quicker 8/31/2011 8:08:06 AM

1: Go to construction site 2: Ask to use miter saw 3: ????? 4: Profit!
they do make larger ratcheting pvs cutters, but they are $Texas. your normal ratcheting cutters will be lucky to do 1.5" pvc, and you'll probably chip they blade and render it hard as hell to use after a few cuts. most are only good up to 1" 8/31/2011 8:57:11 AM
