Red Star Oil on 401 is the place for diesel fuel in wake county. Competitive prices, high volume of sales, people that know their shit about diesel, off road diesel available, and ethanol free gas. 8/31/2011 11:19:15 PM |

as long as you go to a 'well used' fuel station, the water in gas thing isnt an issue 9/1/2011 7:25:41 AM |

well in downtown raleigh, where I live, it's difficult to find a station that moves any significant volume of diesel. also, in talking to the manager at red star, I've found that all gas in wake county is required to be 10% ethanol. just because the pump doesn't say E10 product, doesn't mean it's not E10 9/1/2011 8:22:01 AM |

I only fill up at the big boy diesel pumps. Going to the same pump each time I get consistent good fuel, they know me so I don't have to go in and pre-pay, and I can pump 30 gallons in the time it takes to pump 12 at the lil guy pumps. 9/1/2011 11:45:52 AM |

i've got several of those 5 gallon racing fuel jugs and i just fill them up with e-free at EZ bait and tackle in goldsboro whenever i pass through. also can get it in morehead city. i assume all gas contains ethanol unless they clearly advertise as e-free.
my mom carried e-free at the mill in hood swamp (something about the seals in their pumps weren't ok for ethanol), but she had to stop selling fuel because the selma fuel terminal no longer carries e-free and the next closest terminal with e-free was wilmington, which would be $texas due to long distance delivery. 9/1/2011 11:12:53 PM |

If Red Star really has E-Free gas I'll probably grab a 14 gallon caddy from Northern Tool tomorrow and start carrying it back and forth to and from the lake.
My boat has never had ethanol, but I'm on an almost empty tank and I was going to have to fill up this weekend. The place I was getting E-Free from last year has ethanol now. The 40 gallons I left in it over the winter lasted this long because my boat was broke over half the summer. 9/1/2011 11:32:25 PM |

those work great if you refuel at the dock where it can gravity feed. i fuel up on the trailer and it's a lot easier to just put a long piece of tygon on there so i can stick that in the filler neck, then throw the can up on my shoulder. i guess i can dump 5 gal in about 30 or 45 seconds, which beats the hell out of those shitty california-approved gas cans they sell now.
also a good idea to run e-free in your mowers and other small engines that sit up during the off season unless you plan to dump or pump out the tank and then run it until it cuts off.

Called Red Star and confirmed that the 87 Octane is ethanol free. I normally run 89 in my boat, but I don't think it'll hurt it with the timing set conservatively. The other grades are not ethanol free. 9/2/2011 2:25:31 PM |
