I don't know why, but PC terms for job titles annoys the crap out of me. For example, how secretary is now administrative assistant.

What are some other PC job titles out there these days?

NCBELS could sue people who have the word "engineer" in their title if they're not licensed. However, I think they would spent too much in legal fees for it to be worth it.

^^That's dumb. If someone is concerned about whether or not an "engineer" is licensed, they can just require proof that the engineer is licensed. I don't see why anyone should be able to sue for that.

Nope, but in the case of an engineer that wasn't actually licensed, I don't think their legal title would be "Engineer" either.

For the record, though, I don't think there's anything wrong with someone providing a service, even if it's unapproved by some state entity. Inter-discipline licensing will pop up regardless, and customers can check to see if the person/business they're looking to hire is licensed by a trusted third party.

I don't think anyone is going to confuse a sanitation engineer with an electrical engineer anytime soon.

HAHA. They just hired 5 telemarketers to work under me (which I have no idea why - I'm just the guy who setup the phone system.) Call them telethoners.

My title is "Project Guru". I basically do what the boss tells me; from networking to custom telephone systems, to laser etching brass coins. Fun

yeah, it's typically a chem-e. but in support of the actual process of batching and filling and not say.... utilities (which can be filled with a chem e or an ME, depending on the type of facility).

and process engineers are in the engineering department.

manufacturing engineers, this can be different. sometimes it can be industrial engineering, ME, etc, but often times the job itself is in the manufacturing departments where the packaging and material handling activities happen (this is at least the case in pharma)

I was a process engineer at a gold mine. I would probably call it a control system engineering position but that's what they called me.

a process engineer may be involved with:

Creation of block flow diagrams, equipment lists, heat and material balances, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, process schedules, sizing and specifying equipment not limited to: reactors, columns, heat exchanges, pumps, and all interconnecting piping and instrumentation, providing a functional narrative for control strategy.
