This is my question: What is the concentration of a solution with an absorbance of 0.526
the calibration curve is y=2.44x-0.0275
if some one could explain this to me, that'd be awesome. 9/8/2011 8:36:03 AM |

assuming you graphed absorbance vs concentration (so x-values are absorbance and y-values are concentration) then you just plug in the absorbance of 0.526 in for the x in the curve formula and w/e y ends up being is your concentration value
if you are any kind of chemistry major I AM DISAPPOINT, but if not then yea thats how you do it] 9/8/2011 1:05:31 PM |

And so it begins ...
Umm, as for the linear fit, Beer's Law is A = elC so the y = mx + b fit would suggest that one is plotting Absorbance as the dependent variable along the ordinate and the concentration as the independent variable along the abscissa. If the OP is in sections 001 or 002, I'm pretty certain that we discussed this procedure in class at the board.

so basically I said exactly what warren said, but really dumbed down so that the dude had a chance in hell of understanding what was being said
come on teach, no one calls them the ordinate and abciscoausfsjd;fkaslkdgjaaaaaaa

DDK: I didn't say this initially (trying to be polite), but what you wrote initially was inverted; the absorbance would be the y-values, and the concentrations the x-values. I actually thought that I was "teaching" - this is Study Hall after all - by using the formal terms since "x" and "y" are, after all, just labels. Perhaps I failed just like so many of my jokes.
