The city I lived in when I was in NY is flooding pretty badly. Apparently they evacuated most of the city, and surrounding towns:

The flooding was caused by the tears of Tony Kornheiser.

Poor home owners. There was another flood there back in 2006. Property value there is already depressed because...well....it's in upstate New York. The previous flood completely fucked up every single house close to the rivers.

I can't imagine how worthless those houses are now... and apparently this flooding is much more wide spread.

Is the third pic union endicott high? Looks like their football field but hard to tell. My dad and sister graduated from there and we still have a ton of family up that way. Flooding sucks!

the end of one 100 year span, and the start of another

I guess they wouldnt statistically be getting another flood for 198+ more years

it's pretty bad where I am too. the rivers here haven't even crested yet- supposedly will by late tonight or sometime tomorrow. Most are several feet BEYOND major flood stage.

And all of this right after the flood waters from Irene were starting to subside. Been a very crappy flood year in north jersey.

This is less than 3 miles from where I commute to daily (or at least, tried to commute to before all this):

moar pics:

This just made me LOL

My wife and pretty much all of her family on her mother's side lives in that area. Her mom's house is right off the Susquehanna river in Windsor, NY and it essentially under water now I like that area a lot except in the winter (which is like 6-7 months of the year).

Her home barely survived the floods in 2006. Sucks for that area because the people in upstate NY are really good people, similar to small southern towns just with different accents and better educated. Hate to see that area suffering through more shit. At least my wife's mother has good flood insurance.

I've been in some of those stores in EMCE pics.

Yeah, we need to privatize dams and levies.

Your ignorance never ceases to amaze me.

For stormwater control, local and state governing officials require land developers to construct and maintain dams and/or levies.

i'm pretty sure half the people there didn't finish high school

but damn, that really sucks for them. at least they missed the spring flooding that alot of the north got this spring. there must be nothing like fixing your shit back and then having it re-flooded the same year.
