I bought an iMac g3 this morning at the NCSU surplus sale for $10. When I cut it on, it flashes a folder with a question mark on it. It says the hard drive has been erased, so I'm assuming it needs an OS and whatnot.
Any suggestions as to what to do with it? I'd like to get it working again. 9/9/2011 11:11:30 AM |

Only problem with that is that I'm at school. Can't they trace that kind of thing?
And which would be better, 10 or 9? I'm not looking to do anything serious on it, just maybe Oregon Trail and stupid shit like that.9/9/2011 9:19:15 PM |

g3?
You've got like a kitchen web browser or file server at best.
lord, you need hacks to get kubuntu (the stripped down one) to work. And at best the dapper line will boot. haha, mac.

Your maximum OS is 10.3.9. Not bad really. For 10 bucks, it would be a fun machine to fuck around with. In terms of capability, a file server at best is what it is good for (and with only about 40 gb, you would need a HDD upgrade to really use it as a file server, and even then, only up to 128 gb it can address officially). 9/9/2011 10:50:42 PM |

If it was the last generation of iMac G3, it could support up to 10.4.11.
Download this if you have another Mac accessible:
