^^Not just one of those, but a lot of those as they wear out. And they are awesome and fun.

Really, if you're brushing and tryna floss, you're ahead of the game no matter how much you manage to floss on a daily (or weekly) basis.

Yes I have one. Bought it when I got braces 2.5 years ago. Still works well and enjoy using it.

Waterpik is fantastic. You know it's working when your sink has nasty bits of food in it after you finish. But you have to get through the stage of bleeding first.

And they screw you on the replacement nozzles.

What kind of floss though? Crest Glide is nothing like any other flosses I've used.

I enjoyed it when I had one. I have permanent retainers behind six teeth on the bottom and the two front teeth on the top. Threaders are a pain to use.

i use these (http://www.amazon.com/Flossaid-Dental-Floss-Holder-Pack/dp/B001YX2A8W/) because you just "reload" it with your own floss

also, i hate using cheap floss...any of the "ribbon" flosses are fine (i think i use oral-b superfloss)

Here's what my dentist had to say about them, fwiw:

Quote :
"Given the research that has been done
with shooting water devices like that Water Pik, I would not spend any
money getting one. The danger is that the force can drive bacteria
into the blood stream and can actually separate the layers of gum kind
of like velcro (that's precisely the attachment we are trying to
preserve!). Our M.O. is to get in their and lift debris out, so
something like this, which stirs, may be more effective than a
powerwasher.

http://www.waterpik-store.com/detail/WAT+FLA-220

Please know, though, that I have not read ANY research on this
device's effectiveness. Oral hygiene is a big, big business in the USA
and these companies all seem to want to put any device, toothbrush,
toothpaste, or mouthrinse out there that will move. At least it is
cheap, though! Oral B had something like that that became really
popular with lock pickers, and they have discontinued it."

Of course dentists won't recommend them. They want your teeth all fucked up so they can make money off fixing them.

^^ the Wikipedia article is crazy positive toward the devices.

There have been studies on it, but I wouldn't expect any dentist to "remember" them. I want to see a study that came out with a negative or concerning result, but all I see is anecdotal fairy tales like ^^^

haha pull off your tin foil hat buddy. if that were the case, wouldn't they recommend we floss weekly, instead of daily. or tell us 1 minute of brushing is sufficient...or once a day brushing is sufficient etc?

dentists have an orthodoxy they have to adhere to.

Speaking generally, if there is a new possible method that has conflicting evidence to the extent that it it 90% likely to yield a positive result and 10% likely to yield a negative result of the same severity, in other words, the .9 chance benefit 1, .1 chance benefit -1, expected value .8, they would tell you to go with the null option that has an expected value of 0. In fact, you probably won't even floss every day anyway, so less than 0. That option still has less liability on them.

It's no conspiracy. It's simple action in self-interest, no large scale mechanics involved.
