"A Salisbury resident has been banned from hunting anywhere in the world for two years as part of an agreement with federal authorities in Kentucky on charges that he illegally hunted in and took wildlife from that state.

Rodney L. Poteat agreed to the ban in U.S. District Court in Kentucky last week, according to a Department of Justice press release. Reached at his Perryman Drive home Wednesday evening, Poteat declined to comment.

He also agreed to pay the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources $5,300 in restitution, and $50 in special penalty assessments. The restitution is to compensate the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources for the fees Poteat would have paid for hunting in Kentucky between 2002 and 2011, the press release said."

Quote :
"According to federal authorities, on Nov. 27, 2010, Poteat transported a 14-point white-tailed deer from Hart County, Ky. to his home in Salisbury. Poteat was required to purchase a non-resident hunting license and deer permit prior to hunting in Kentucky. He also was required to report the harvest of any deer taken in Kentucky, and to make a report before transporting the deer outside of Kentucky.

Poteat also pleaded guilty to knowingly transporting a bobcat from Hart County, Ky. to Salisbury in November 2010 without purchasing a non-resident hunting license. Poteat also failed to report the harvest of a bobcat taken within Kentucky, authorities said."

How the federal government can claim to have worldwide jurisdiction, I do not know.

If nothing he hunted and killed was in any way endangered, then this is excessive and stupid.

They can't claim jurisdiction, but its part of his agreement to stay out of jail. No different that forcing someone to forfeit their passport for a period of time.

IF someone tells you not to do something, and you do it, should you expect not to get punished?

^basically

i have no resepct for poaching, i hope legislation such as this become the norm. Sportsmen and women dont do that garbage, they follow the law and respect the land above and beyond the letter of the law.

"O ITS NOT ON AN ENDANGERED SPECIES LIST" fuck you.

this is the kinda guy that makes people look at hunters and anglers as environmental terrorists and rednecks. We need to but these sorts of guys on blast.

well said BHS, I hate that i get viewed as such because i hunt and fish. They dont realize that while im out there im picking up trash and other shit from pleasure boaters or the "birt watchers" that leave crap all over the water and the woods. A true sportsman is a steward to the environment and treats it well so that he/she will have plenty of sporting opportunities in the future.

Assholes like this guy ruin it for everybody else.

agreed...it's especially important because wildlife funding is mostly dependent on fees raised by licenses and such, so people that do shit like this have a huge overall effect.

Three reasons

1) negligence - nobody educated these people to pick up other people's trash or how to fish/hunt without disturbing the environment

2) lack of consequence

3)anonymity in the woods

Nobody is arguing that.

This is actually a pretty light sentence for a wildlife violation. I'm surprised they didn't seize his guns, truck, hunting gear etc. People have had the hunting licenses suspended for far longer for much less of a crime.

Also... hometown represent
