Meh. It was okay. I hated how Schmidt's character was an exact copy of the gay guy from Happy Endings (except for the sexual preference of course). The gay from Happy Endings is much funnier. The bartender got better as the episode went on. Damon Wayan's Jr. was annoying, but he grew on me in Happy Endings.

I love Zooey, but this will have to get a lot better.

Yes, it was cheesy as hell and over the top, but I actually really enjoyed it and found myself laughing most of the time. That's a shame that Daman Wayans Jr. won't be in this anymore I really liked him. By the way, Happy Endings sucks dick, the only reason I would watch it is b/c Elisha Cuthbert is in it...whewww that girl is gorgeous

All in all, I enjoyed the show. It was cheesy but fun, and I think Deschanel is adorable.

^Happy Endings is so much better than this show. It's actually funny how much this show tries to copy Happy Endings. They directly copy one character and actually take the same fucking actor for another one.

Most definitely, I found an episode online that never aired a couple weeks ago and it made me very happy for 21 minutes.


I wanted to like the New Girl pilot, but it really didn't do a whole lot for me. Is anyone actually buying the whole "Zooey Deschanel magically becomes super attractive when she takes off her nerd glasses" thing? Maybe it will get better going forward though.

Traffic Light was the best. Perfect Couples started to come around, but it was so piss poor during it's first few episodes that it just completely killed it's chances.

I enjoyed the pilot. I watched it today (my roommate recommended it) and was pleasantly surprised. I'll keep watching.

(and since others brought it up, I liked both Happy Endings and Traffic Light last year)

Watched it again last night (gf didn't watch it the first time)...and will be taking it off the DVR list. Girlfriend fell asleep and I wanted to throw a remote at the screen every time Schmidt talked. My crush on Zooey isn't enough to keep me watching. Very poor man's version of Happy Endings.

For the people who like her, do you genuinely believe she is a good singer? Her acting is fine, no big beef there on my part. But her music is just god-awful. She wouldn't be able to get a gig at an open-mic night if she wasn't famous.

I like her singing; I loved her first She&Him record and thought the 2nd was pretty good as well.

Her acting on the other hand is hit or miss. I think a good director and good budget definitely help her a lot. Either way she is adorable. However, like jbrick83 said: "My crush on Zooey isn't enough to keep me watching." Hopefully it picks up, although I don't really have high hopes.

Her singing is certainly not my usual bag. I usually prefer metal/rock, but I do have a classic country and bluegrass streak at times. I was listening on XM/Pandora/Slacker or something one day and heard "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here" by She & Him and thought it was pretty damn good and made a point to check it out. I didn't realize until later that it was Zooey singing. I have listened to both CDs and enjoy them quite a bit. So yes I enjoyed the music on its own without any bias or knowledge who the artists were.

as much as I like zooey and enjoy her real singing voice, that alone won't keep me watching this show if it doesn't pick up pretty quickly. It's pretty mediocre so far unfortunately...and that might only be me tolerating it temporarily because of her (but that won't take it more than maybe 3-4 episodes for me)
