I make bread without a bread maker (it's not hard, just time consuming) but man would I love a bread machine. Everyone I know who uses theirs loves it.

It's amazing how much better fresh bread is! I love to cut the heel off when it's still too hot to eat and slather Maple View butter on it and eat it right there.

Shit, I'm salivating.

actually, very little kneading is necessary if you have high-gluten flour intended for bread and you shape the dough correctly.

that being said, i frequently put my dough in the machine. but only for about 20 minutes, not an hour and a half.

+1 to breadmakers being awesome

an oven is fine (and necessary for some recipes), but i'll pass on kneading my own dough...and at that point, i'd just as soon have the breadmaker bake it, too

i'm planning on my making my pumpernickel this weekend...along with sweet potato and/or pumpkin soup (a stick blender is another one of those "unnecessary" things that are absolutely awesome)

hahaha I was thinking the same thing. I like nice, crusty bread straight from the oven. If this damn summer would ever end I'd get in the mood to start baking bread again

That said I've contemplated getting a bread maker for sandwich bread.

kneading dough is fun! you throw flour everywhere and make a huge mess. it's great times. why let the machine have all the fun. pffft

^^^ Exactly!

Although on days I'm feeling lazy I just throw the dough in my Kitchenaid mixer with the dough hook
