I agree with ddk, he gets about a 4 on a 1-10 scale. Also, his material is so played out. If you're gonna try to be funny, come up with some new shit every once in a while.

I haven't gone out of my way to see his act, but you have to give a guy credit for making money doing ventriloquism in this day in age.

"It was an odd kind of diversity: the crowd at the Prairie Capital was almost entirely white, but other than that, I was hard pressed to find a phrase to describe even a majority. Maybe “not thin.”"

"He defends himself by noting that he tries to insult all races and ethnicities equally, and ultimately seems to treat jokes about all Indians being customer-service operators or all black people drinking malt liquor not all that differently from jokes involving other well-worn comedic tropes — like all wives being annoying nags or Florida being way too humid.

Dunham does concede that he’s extra-sensitive to one of his largest constituencies: the conservative “country crowd.” “That’s why I don’t pick on basic Christian-values stuff,” he told me. “Well, I also don’t like to, because that’s the way I was brought up.” He then stopped himself short and said: “Oh, boy. I’m walking into something here.”

Dunham started to explain — as if realizing it for the first time — that this would appear to make the jokes he does about Islam with Achmed “hypocritical.”"

Yea, this guy is a prick. "Oh, I insult everyone equally.... except my audience."

it's not fair to try to compare him to a louis CK, dave chapelle, etc... he is a more wholesome family entertainer. I'm not saying I would pay to see him, but he certainly is good for the audience he draws, and yall are acting like he is stealing your wellfare checks for it

Most comedians like that group him with more family friendly acts such as Foxworthy and others anyhow. Its a different kind of comedy. I'll be honest, I like some of Dunham's stuff. I would certainly not say he is a favorite though. Shit, I am much more a Louis C.K fan, or enjoy Patrice O'Neal, Vos, Jim Norton, Chapelle, Jay Mohr, or any of the other cruder comedians. But if I want to watch something with my young children, Jeff is more age appropriate and "safer". He isn't hilarious, but I think its disengenuous to say he is not funny.

who is the fat, hispanic guy they just gave a show to? That looks fucking terrible, it might last a few episodes. There are so many terrible comedians out there, and comedy central just gives out shows left and right.

I don't begrudge him understanding his audience and deciding to cater to it.

I applaud him for selling out arenas doing a parlor trick that's made to be seen from about 30 feet away at most.

He's still not funny.

Eh, I find him amusing. I don't think he is the funniest guy ever, but I enjoy his stuff. Sometimes its just hard to find clean comedy. I don't know if its part of getting older, having kids, or what but I just don't enjoy comedy acts anymore where cursing is used as an adjective every other sentence.

I would like to say that most comedians that become UBER popular are not funny.

Its not because i'm some sort of comedian hipster, its because by the time everyone knows about them... they're already out of jokes and should retire... but nope some people just like to hear the same shit over and over and over again...

In my book, ventriloquists are dead even with mimes, and both are at the very bottom of the hierarchy of entertainment professions.

Brian Regan. Jim Gaffigan. Jerry Seinfeld. Old Bill Cosby, Albert Brooks, and Steve Martin albums.

just because you want clean comedy doesn't mean you have to accept bad/unfunny comedy.

I still can't believe people are calling this guy wholesome as well. For the record standup Bill Cosby before the Cosby show was not wholesome either.

yes- lack of profanity does not automatically mean child friendly, but if you think he is inappropriate for kids, well then I totally have to disagree and I think you need to pull the stick out of your ass

he is family friendly, and is entertaining. I still stand by my first post in this thread:

Quote :

I also like what Nighthawk had to say

Quote :

Maybe but the ultimate sin in comedy is to be offensive and not funny. The thing is Jeff Dunham is not funny so some of the stuff he does, even though not to the extremes others are just sound crass even if it appears fairly tame.

[Edited on October 31, 2011 at 11:03 AM. Reason : he's not funny ergo he can't pull off this shit.]
