Do I need a watch for my business suit to be "complete"?
And what's the deal with all of them being so expensive? For Christ's sake, they're obsolete devices. I don't even care if I get one that successfully tells the time. I just feel like I need one to complete the business getup. 10/6/2011 11:14:49 PM |

I would suggest a Bulova watch, a silver band with 2 gold stripes. Simpler is better as far as the watch face. I have 2 Bulovaks, a Pulsar (for when on ship as its lower cost), and a nice pocket watyches....although I just like it so that's why I havve that 10/7/2011 5:31:28 AM |

And it's a personal choice. Don't get one just because you feel like it's "required". I've never worn one at work or when dressing up for more formal occasions either. I couldn't even tell you which of my friends wear them with suits and which don't because it's something I don't notice. I have absolutely no problem with other people wearing them of course, but don't waste your money on one unless you want one yourself.

^ and ^^, agreed. I like wearing a good watch, but definitely not all people in business meetings/interviews wear them. So no, they're not a necessity. Maybe if you're an investment banker, and have to wear a huge ass Rolex to prove your worth to clients, but otherwise you're ok without! 10/7/2011 7:46:02 AM |

I get a ton of compliments on my Skagen. It's much more sleek than most Men's watches now, since the style seems to be wearing something the size of an alarm clock on your wrist.

With your wrists flapping limply, unadorned by the steel embrace of success, as your repugnant attire drapes pathetically over your gaunt cadaverous frame, untailored and unhemmed, a symbol of unrewarded struggle for the descendants of the slovenly Hugenots who founded your village so many moons ago. 10/7/2011 9:31:20 AM |

I'm a big fan of Swiss Army watches. You can get a pretty nice one for less than a grand. Swiss watches have a reputation for being the "best made" for whatever that's worth. I've had mine for a little over 4 years and have never had a problem.
Also, its personal taste, but for a suit I like a leather strap rather than the metal bracelet. Leather seems more formal.

do you want to be that douchebag that stops in the middle of conducting a meeting / lecture to whip out your cell phone and check the time? if not, then get a watch.
what, not conducting meetings on your own yet? then you're overdressed in a business suit and shouldn't be worried about conducting meetings. clothes don't make you powerful or successful, but they can make you look pretentious.10/7/2011 10:42:28 AM |

I have no doubt that your douchebagness is already apparent before you check your watch.
But what rooms do you have meetings in where there isn't a clock??
And it's not a big deal anymore to whip out your cell phone to check for the time. Most of the time these days people are using their cell phone FOR the meeting in some aspect.
I'm not against big, expensive watches. I just think they're becoming less relevant. You'll get noticed for wearing one (and sometimes it can be in a negative light), but won't get noticed for NOT wearing one.10/7/2011 10:57:12 AM |

plenty of hotel conference rooms don't have clocks. meetings in an outdoor environment, such as at a construction, won't have clocks.
and yes, whipping out your cellphone during a meeting for any reason other than to turn off the ringer makes you a douchebag.
