I'm trying to become a better organizer of my stuff as now it just sits in boxes not doing much of anything

Post your organizing ideas here!

I really like this idea for shoes when it's been a gross day like today.

I'm thinking of doing something like this in our entryway.

I love these for spices.

This kind of plays off the second picture a bit. I saw this in the PB catalogue yesterday, and really want to do this (but make it ourselves so it isn't so daggone expensive).

I categorize my porn alphabetically by female star.

Within each star’s folder, I sort by site attained from alphabetically, and then chronologically. If dates are indeterminable, (and they rarely are), I ballpark it, based on her partner, hair style, figure, tattoos, lighting, etc. For scenes with multiple girls, I defer to the one higher up on my personal totem pole, aka the one who’s folder I’ll be accessing more often.

Within each studio’s folder (within each star’s folder), I categorize by niche. Sometimes this is hard to identify. The basic overarching Teen, Milf, Classic, Group, Solo, Interracial, etc. headings don’t do all of the scenes justice, especially those that overlap several genres. I’ll make a best guess in these situations, and it usually comes down to the cumshot. For example, it doesn’t matter what happens previously in the scene…if he cums on her feet, it’s a foot fetish video. If he cums inside her, its creampie. Since facial and body shots are much more common, there’s more leeway with them, and I often defer to another category since a purely facial database would comprise upwards of two-thirds of my collection.

Once I’ve appropriately labeled a scene and placed it in its respective folder, my work is not done. I can’t have my collection get static; it has to be constantly evolving along with the industry. Say I have a scene where two girls double up on some guy. I have the scene in one of the girl’s folder, but my tastes change and I now prefer the other girl. I’ll move it to her folder. What if one of those girls develops a meth problem and her performance suffers in future scenes ? That’s going to turn me off, and I’ll probably move that video further down the lineup.

Generally, I try to keep on top of everything, but with my sizable archive, it takes a lot of work to keep up. I try to allocate 1 weekend day every few months to get everything in line. That day is coming up soon. Just the other day I couldn’t find a particular Toni Black video and it drove me crazy. Order must restored to the Slave Famous Porn Library.

I like to keep all my glass jars from various products and use them for my loose spices, nuts, and misc. loose items.

I also love using lil boxes to drawer organize.

I'm thinking about installing one of those Elfa systems in my pantry because the way my pantry is currently configured is retarded. It basically has these super deep wooden shelves so that you can't reach half the crap you put in there.

This is very similar to the layout I plan on doing:

Stuff is 25% off until Sunday so guess I need to go in there soon

I also split my closet into to two sections, on the right is all going out/dressy items and all my dresses

on the left is all my work and casual. Its all color coded.
I don't like hanging pants though so they are all folded in the left hand side.
I've got all my shoes in hanging shoes cubbies, i would like shelves though. My purses are on shelving.

I bought a bookshelf and cut it so it fit in my closet. I keep all my books in it b/c I like books to be out of sight otherwise i think its to busy.

I'm not going to like, I am anal when it comes to organization and keeping things neat and clean.

[Edited on October 12, 2011 at 4:31 PM. Reason : I woudlnt' have had to cut it but the bar was in the way making it 2 inches too tall. ]

I do something similar. When I'm done with a sample jar, I'll use it for traveling. Like I'll put some of my moisturizer in a small empty clinique sample jar so I have more space in my little plastic baggy. When I was traveling a lot for work this was super handy since there is only so much space in those bags.

I do the same thing. All my short sleeve stuff is grouped by color. Cardigans are grouped, pants, skirts, etc.

Ack the dreaded papers piles! I have those too haha.

To be honest the best way I've found is just a good old fashioned filing cabinet. I'm going to try and snag one from the surplus sale Friday.

I am the same way. when I moved last year and I was trying to pack up my condo, I was like "I don't really feel like packing this so I'm going to throw it out." I threw out most of my stuff.

Y'all don't even want to know how much shit I threw away when I moved back to the States. Having to pay $180 to ship a bin this size:

really puts your material goods on notice I think by the time I was done I threw away something like 80 trash bags of stuff.

I read a lot of Fly Lady's tips for keeping your house organized and tidy (not that it helps much). One of the things she harps on is knowing your home's "hot spots" or where thing gets put if you don't know where to put it. For me, it's the kitchen table and the higher counter in the kitchen. These are the spots you take 15 minutes a night and make sure they're clean. If they're clean, you're less likely to add to the piles.

For the dreaded paper piles, she recommends sorting through your junk mail immediately, tossing/shredding what you don't need, and filing what you do into categories. Just get a mail sorter tray, or a napkin holder like mentioned, I use a filing cabinet, and have it labeled: "to pay" "paid" "medical records" "pets" "student loans" and "misc. needs attention" etc. as needed.

Or if you don't want it taking up table space, you could get corkboard and tack the papers to the wall. Or get some of that magnetic paint so you can stick paper to the wall with magnets.

For papers I have something like this but cuter and also for wal-mart go back in their office supply section and you'll find it.

Once you are done using it store it away.

I'm the opposite--I like the look of a full bookshelf. Between the girlfriend and myself, our house has 6 full-size bookshelves, and we would need a couple more to store the rest. The ones in the living room have the leatherbound volumes I inherited from my great uncle, some classics/literature, and a shelf of coffee table-type books, so it looks a little classier.

My office in particular is a hot mess though, and as we will likely be moving to a smaller place next spring/summer, I need to start on the organizing now. As it's kind of overwhelming I'm going to go with an idea given to me recently--to tackle a big project don't even think about the big picture at first. Pick one item--a box, a drawer, a single shelf in a closet, a messy work surface--and organize/de-junk fully. Then proceed to the next small item. Doing one a day it ought to add up quickly.

I would pay someone to organize my house, except I really need someone to just come in and make me throw stuff away, and tell me what clothes look completely hideous on me, and I don't think that's the standard part of paying someone to organize.

I know that Triangle's Other Woman does in home organization. They had a ZSpot Deal for 4 hours of organization, but I don't know what their normal prices would be. Wolfy, you could probably get a quote from a few places like that to see what you could charge.

Then offer a TWW discount and we will give you good reviews.

My wife and I just installed an ELFA shelf in her office since there was no closet space. Very inexpensive and VERY easy to install. Plus you get to design it yourself and it looks great. Nothing of ours touches the floor and that makes for very easy vacuuming.

Good to know. I like how you can a la carte their stuff. Other systems I looked at were either ridiculously expensive or you had to buy it as a kit and couldn't modify it.
