National Security Cutters and High Endurance Cutters are pretty big and go all over the world. I think our ice-breakers travel pretty far too. There's some cutters in Bahrain and Kuwait as well. the new HEC's are supposed to be pretty sweet. A friend of mine just got stationed on the Bertholf in CA and loves it. The racks are ginormous!

There's one in my gallery of my work gear. I'll have to dig up a Class A photo, but I bet some of these officers here look a lot more presentable.

You probably know more than me about this, but I think the new HECs are basically Navy LCSs refitted by Coast Guard use.

It would be pretty kick-ass if they gave you guys a 57 deck gun.

There was a Bill that I knew, but never heard him called "yahoo". He got hit pretty bad during our tour, med discharged at 100%. I don't think he's the same guy you're speaking of though.

Hmmm, I really don't know too much about them, but they do look similar. I meant to say NSC's (National Security Cutters). As far as I know, those are a completely new build and six were contracted to be built. 2 or 3 have been completed so far. And yes....it would be very kick ass if they put 57 deck guns on them

^Oops, you're right. I was talking about the NSC. I think they are built on the same essential design, IIRC.

So anyone got any helpful hints with shooting the M-16?

Currently qualifying on it and struggling a bit. Shot a 93 and a 133 today...140 qualifies you.

from the prone I am golden, kneeling I am eh...from the standing I SUCK.

Are you struggling with M-16s or shooting in general? Beyond the basics (squeeze don't pull, inhale-exhale-squeeze, make sure the rifle is right up along your shoulder) can't really think of what to tell you. Also, is it your issued M-16 or a range one that has had everyone and their mother put rounds though.

Insultmaster, if you are looking for the easiest bootcamp...you should probably not join.

its different for different people.

I guess just the M-16, I q'd the 9mm and the shotty.

I trigger pull a lot...also I find it hard to focus with the sites.

Are your shots grouped decently close together or erratic? If it's the former, just keep adjusting your sights until you find your sweet spot, if it's the latter just talk to one of the range guys to make sure your form is good.

If you find it hard to focus, try flipping up the sights to the poor weather sight (forgot what the real name of it was) but the sight with the bigger window.

Good luck though, M-16s suck

yes. Duty is normally where you stay on the boat for 24 hrs. Basically maintain the boat while in port.

however many sections there is how many times you stand it...ie 30 section= once a month. 10 is 3 times a month. (on the boat I have done as low as 2 and as much as 6 section)

I am on shore duty, so I do not belong to a boat, so not only is it 30 section, its only 8 hrs of either ride-along, check-points, or gate guard.

its a good deal for the guys who can pass their PRT, not get domestic violence cases against them, or be on psycho-active drugs.

^^What is the course of fire for your standing targets? How many rounds, target size, distance, etc.

What does your stance look like? Are you holding the magazine, like a submachine gun, or the forearm?

What about your feet, are they offset like a boxers, or too close together.

In short...don't do this:

But do this:

10 rds, 10 mins, 50 yards, targets are just smaller than your average piece of paper.

standing like the black and white picture, except they make us wrap our arms in the sling to hold the gun steady...

i do offset feet.

one of the instructors said I might be one of the weirdos who shoots right handed but is left eye dominant because i have trouble focusing on the sites...

Hold it as you would normally (right handed), but tilt it so the trigger is pointing down and away, ie the rifle is slanted like \ , it's how you would hold it when you're qual'ing with a gas mask

It's hard to do a proper diagnosis online but:

Wrap the sling like such http://carnival.saysuncle.com/001086.html

As much as they allow, bend at the waist and knees for a more stable shooting platform.

I'm assuming you had a 25m zero, so the sights will sit a little low at 50.

Don't cant the gun. Press, dont jerk the trigger.

This may be old, but I was told about a site at work today that offers vets tickets to events.

http://www.vettix.org

you can receive or donate if you wish.

I know up here there is Mariner's and Sounder's tickets...so its worth a look at least.
