Republicans appeal more to conservative Christians who are against Sharia law but are all for having more religion in politics. Like having constitutional amendments that ban gay marriage (when the reason for banning gay marriage comes from purely a religious philosophy), no buying beer on Sunday until 12 (if at all), banning abortions due to religious reasons, ect.

my husband worked with a black fellow who thought that all black people should be republican because democratic social programs like welfare etc were keeping blacks poor. give a man $5, he'll find a way to live off of $5 instead of working and earning $7.
