Does anyone actually know someone who graduated from there? I imagine their average alumnus looks something like this

Yeah but with their tuition being so high I doubt they could find enough North Carolinians to fill their seats if they suddenly decided to focus more on in-state students. That's a big reason for them more heavily recruiting in states like California and New York than they do here. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just what they do. 11/3/2011 12:19:52 PM

Duke also gives a shit load of grants to those who can't afford the school. One of my best friends is going there for 8k total over 4 years 11/3/2011 12:25:31 PM

Yeah unfortunately a lot of that grant money flew out the window with the recession which sucks for incoming freshmen. I wonder how it's affected their overall grant percentages. 11/3/2011 12:26:41 PM

I thought people applied to colleges instead of the college recruiting them. They dont care where the money comes from. People come from out of state because it is a prestigious university. 11/3/2011 12:29:45 PM

Wat. I can't think of a single university that doesn't have a recruitment team. I know some people that make big bucks in student recruitment. 11/3/2011 12:31:33 PM

LOL, I love CCU's enrollment over the years. Increase over time of admissions from NJ (and other northern states)---Jersey Shore South! 11/3/2011 2:11:25 PM

Wouldn't be surprised if they're in the engineering or statistics. 11/3/2011 2:37:37 PM

I worry about the accuracy of this. I came from Nevada to NC State in 1998...it notes 0 that year. 11/3/2011 2:44:14 PM

I'm guessing they're pulling it from the university's self-reported demographic numbers so it depends on how each university reports that. 11/3/2011 2:50:42 PM

It really depends for out of state students. I chose NC State over Penn State and Pitt because I liked it a lot better during my visit and I'm an engineer. 11/3/2011 2:53:59 PM

Compare Duke, Elon, and High Point. They're all about the same.
Quote : | "Yeah unfortunately a lot of that grant money flew out the window with the recession which sucks for incoming freshmen." | Maybe. Most of these private universities give out the grants themselves to students so they can afford to go there. Just because the economy goes down doesn't mean the money coming from students paying the full tuition can't go to others students who've applied for financial assistance. 11/3/2011 3:54:30 PM

Yeah you'd think that but it's more complicated than that. I know for a fact that Duke's grant money is way down from what it used to be and it's affected things like scholarship money. I hear people moaning about it in the office on an almost daily basis. 11/3/2011 3:56:08 PM

^Really? I thought their endowment was like the largest it's ever been.
They've been building all sorts of stuff lately. 11/3/2011 3:58:31 PM

That had plans to build a lot of stuff but a lot of it has been scaled back or put on the back burner for the time being. And endowments have all sorts of rules and regs associated with them. You can't easily put money from one area into another like you can with say corporate profits. 11/3/2011 4:12:55 PM
