Ice cream of the future is now a thing of the past.

Quote :
"Dippin' Dots Files for Bankruptcy

The ice cream of the future is struggling to survive.

After a four-year battle with its biggest lender, Dippin' Dots Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Thursday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Paducah, Ky., to avoid foreclosure.

The manufacturer of the quirky and colorful ice cream beads, which are flash frozen using liquid nitrogen, owes $12 million, the bulk of it to a unit of Regions Financial Corp., which moved to foreclose on the loan this week.

The 170-worker company, which calls its frozen treat "ice cream of the future," fell behind on loan payments four years ago at the peak of the economic crisis, when customers were no longer willing to spend the few dollars it cost for a cup.

It has about 142 Dippin' Dots retail locations, which are mostly controlled by franchisees, and agreements with 9,952 small vendors who sell the ice cream at fairs, festivals and sports games. It isn't sold in grocery stores because of its extreme cooling requirements."

I heard this earlier today.

I wasn't a fan, but I know every kid alive loves that stuff.

It was good, but poor business strategy and prices. I remember having this crap at Dollywood when I was like 12.

Rock.

I always dug the whole "ice cream of the future" tagline.

Only had it once though. Had a buddy who said they looked like frozen rat turds, and could never eat them again.

They're cool enough that I don't want them to die off, but I would never buy them on my own accord.

I liked the stuff, but the price tag was their downfall. $5 for a swish-cup's worth of Dip'n Dots isn't worth it.

Never, had it. Maybe one day I'll try it before they disappear into the future.

I liked it. They used to sell it in some malls. Definitely over priced though

I was always disappointed with the taste... it didn't quite burn but just felt weird, and always tasted too watery

who else discovered this at emerald pointe? I remember can't wait to go to emerald pointe on a hot day and get dippin dots. I thought it was something unique to the waterpark for a while.

I got some as an adult and it is complete crap. after eating ncstate icecream everyday and eating a lot of goodberrys as well i'd say dippin dots is trashy icecream but much more expensive than anything else.

I like that stuff too... it was really good but then after a little melty melty all the balls would stick together and then it was not as great

Last time I got it, it was served too warm and was just like so-so regular ice cream. Disappointing.
