Ok...so my apartment complex decided they were going to renovate all the apartments in the complex, redoing all the kitchens and bathrooms. I'm fine with this.

So I got a notice last week that kitchens had to be cleared out by Monday and bathrooms by Wednesday. So I left my bathroom as is and went to work.

The crew apparently decided to go ahead and do the bathroom renovations...and didn't move or cover any of my things.


I came home (MONDAY) to spackle footprints on my hardwood floors leading into the bathroom. There was a fine dusting of white all over everything in my bathroom: towels, hairbrushes, toothpaste, curtain, etc...

There was plaster dust in my toothbrush too...which was just insulting.

There was also huge chunks of paint and plaster all over my floor and in a basket where I have my hairdryer, brushes, and styling products. My floor and tub have huge globs of dried plaster. My towels and anything fabric has to be washed, of course, but since I don't have washer/dryer and have to take my stuff to the laundromat, this is a HUGE inconvenience and also an expense of my time and money. I also had a pair of Underamour running shorts that were hanging to dry that now have paint chips, plaster, and dust all over them.

My hairdryer and head styler are so full of dust and paint chips I had to toss them

Added insult...one of the workers took a dump in my toilet and didn't flush well...because there was shrapnel in my toilet when I got home.

I wrote a list of stuff that was entirely damaged and needed to be replaced and took it and pictures to my landlord. They came into my place and told the construction crew leader it was unacceptable and apologized. I emailed the list to the landlord and she forwarded it to the company. All in all I'm out laundry service and about $70 worth of damages to my stuff.

My question is, how long do I wait until I get results? I have to pay out of pocket now for new things, and I'm pretty pissed that I had to walk to the YMCA just to shower last night because I quite frankly didn't feel like cleaning up all that mess. What is a reasonable time frame?

Its the 8th, so assuming you've already paid November rent, they'll probably string you out for a few weeks until they need another check from you.

Pardon me for laughing at the defecation.

I already have my attorney (haha...so glad I have friends who decided to be lawyers who love this kind of things and work for sandwiches) ready, but I don't know when I'm just being too demanding and unreasonable or tired of being screwed.

The shit just says I hate you.

to be honest - that's completely unreasonable for them to do what they did. you should check your lease and see what it says.

my company, if a service request is filed, they have two business days to fix it or else they don't charge me rent until it's fixed.

Well when I was dealing with maintenance issues at my old complex I gave them a week before we went completely ballistic on them, so I say you're doing pretty good so far

Well....no check given...BUT my landlord gave in to my amount of damages and told me to just take it out of rent.

So I guess it worked out in the end.

$70 is probably equal to 15 minutes of work for the crew they have in your apartment. An insignificant amount of money from their perspective.
