Isn't that what WP7 apps run on?

yup

xaml+.net isn't going anywhere. Silverlight might be end-of-lifed, but the concepts and practices around it will live on in WinRT

the most important parts of silverlight (the tools + mvvm) will eventually make it into html5 via ASP.NET so its not that big of a problem.

javascript is still garbage but MVC3 does an ok job of abstracting it away. in the future we'll all be using html thats completely separated from code xaml style. then they'll start compiling the code server side into bytecode to make it faster and we'll be back around to native performance levels.

Even if it did go EOL, its not like apps would all of a sudden stop working on that date, and you could even still continuing developing in it, just dont expect any new features.

My company's core product is written in VB6.

is netflix on html5 yet? i thought it was flash and silverlight

there's this, but nothing since...
http://techblog.netflix.com/2010/12/html5-and-video-streaming.html

AFAIK HTML5 doesn't support digital rights management.

Unless something has changed, I think it's just the UI right now, not the video streaming--although according to the last line of the following blog post, they're working on it.

Oh, it has been changing:

^that was what i read, i couldn't find any more information that says Netflix has switched to HTML5 yet.... just using Webkit/HTML5 for UI.. that link was still May of this year.

If you can do DRM over HTML5 i'd love to hear how... I know theoretically it can be done but haven't seen it implemented yet.

Short answer: No.

Long answer:
http://www.w3.org/html/wiki/FAQs#Is_there_support_for_digital_rights_management_.28DRM.29_in_HTML5_video.3F

Quote :
"Is there support for digital rights management (DRM) in HTML5 video? HTML5 doesn't provide direct support, nor any barrier, to using DRM in video. It currently expects this to be handled by the particular codec/implementation. There are implementations which allow for DRM in HTML5 video.

Is dealing with DRM in scope for HTML5? If enough stakeholders want to standardise some aspect of handling DRM in HTML5 itself as part of the inclusion of video and audio media, then it makes sense for W3C to help standardise an approach which meets the needs of the market. However like all W3C work, relevant stakeholders need to be and show they are committed to developing it rather than expecting it to happen on its own.
