If walk in on a dude screwing a little boy in the shower and I beat the shit out of the dude, can I go to jail or get in some kind of legal trouble for it?

If a jury convicted you for doing that, you should beat them too. 11/17/2011 3:17:10 PM

im assuming by "beating the shit out of the dude" you mean 'opportunity to rape a man"
you would probably be not only convicted of rape, but held complicit in the commission of that man's crime against the child 11/17/2011 3:18:06 PM

Nah, that's a third party self defense claim. You will likely go to jail and get into legal trouble, but it's unlikely they'd be able to convict you. 11/17/2011 3:18:40 PM

Why beat the dude off and leave the boy to finish himself? Seems pretty rude to me.] 11/17/2011 3:19:31 PM

US dept of justice defines sexual assault as a violent crime
some states allow you to use deadly force to defend yourself or others against violent crimes
i am not a lawyer, this is not legal advice, etc 11/17/2011 4:07:22 PM

by NC law, you could use deadly force on the rapist

Y'all, I already answered that! Now you're just being redundant.
In NC, you can exercise third party self-defense. That means that you can assert the defense of self-defense even when acting on behalf of someone else. Self-Defense can be used in situations where you are in reasonable threat of imminent death or bodily harm. Rape qualifies as bodily harm.
But--remember that it is a DEFENSE, it is not a way to keep from getting arrested, or to keep from getting charged. You still may go to court, you still may go to jail, but you have the right to assert it as a defense. And like I said, it's really unlikely that you would be convicted of battery if you were doing it in self-defense. 11/17/2011 4:33:22 PM

unless you really really went ape shit and beat him past the point of the kid being able to escape and get to safety
they may question why you chose to continue beating the dude down instead of getting the kid to safe hands
"beating the shit out of someone" i would say you throw one punch and knock him flat and his head bounces of the concrete and he dies would be a defensible scenario
