Ever hear Ray Lewis give a post game interview?

Yes, Ray Lewis is one. Reggie Jackson was big on telling everyone about God.

never saw him in an abortion commercial, never saw him paint bible verses on his face on many occasion, never seen him make a public display on the field every time he makes a play..... i've never argued that other players don't "praise god", i've just said none do it to the extent that tebow does. i'm having a hard time understanding how anybody can argue against that. but again, i'm assuming people must get personally offended when anybody criticizes him for promoting christianity.

Ok, I guess your trolling at this point because I have said many of times I don't hold the same personal beliefs as Tebow, but you keep using that.

Quote :
"never seen him make a public display on the field every time he makes a play"

Other players point to the sky after TDs, Tebow kneels ON THE SIDELINEs after TDs. He can't help the cameras always captures it.

So what if he put bible verses in his eye black? Other athletes wear crosses and kiss their cross charms after a big hit (thinking baseball here).

I already said, that yes the commercial may have been over the top. But if you were a well known athlete and some group asked you to promote something you believed in, whether it be a certain religion or atheism, are saying you wouldn't? And I, for one, wouldn't pass judgement on you for talking about something you believe in

No, i would never use my status as an athlete to actively promote atheism. Only a douche would do that.

EDIT: Cowboy, i'm not saying YOU are offended because of the criticism of christianity, but i know that's why some people are defending him, no question.

and i said it before, but i'm totally serious this time: i'll stop talking about how annoying his promotion of a polarizing issue is

Reggie Jackson used to say "here comes Jesus" right before a snap. He was also a minister, and did do quite a bit of preaching.

Again I want to point out that the religious talk in this thread was started by atheists who were all hating on him for talking about his beliefs, yet they were doing the same thing with atheism.

Why is it that we are allowed to question other belief systems (forms of government, areas of science etc) demand proof or say that someone who believes x,y or z is acting irrational or that their belief in eugenics is intolerant and to use their status to promote their intolerance turns us off and that is fine. But as soon as we say, Hey, this Tebow guy is using bronze age brutality and bronze age reasoning and then as an idol figure promoting his certain brand of whatever to impressionable people we are supposed to say, oh its fine because disagreeing with him is intolerant.

It isn't intolerant to call a spade a spade. It isn't intolerant to speak out against racism or hate speech or politically folly, but if you don't condone myth based morality, YOU INTOLERANT BIGOT. There is a severe and dangerous disconnect when it comes to this. Tebow isn't the only athlete who does this, but he is the rallying point for a lot of fundamentalist.

That being said, that bastard sure does know how to win football games. I mean, it is just crazy how he manages to have pretty mediocre to terrible stat lines and still pull off wins.

we could recognize it better if you'd explain what he does differently than others. you know, like you've been asked 15 times to do in this thread and still won't do.

Quote :
"but no one has been able to produce one single example of somebody who rivals tebow in this."

that's because you haven't given us any examples of specifically what makes Tebow go "above and beyond everyone else". we can't give you a comparison if you give us nothing against which to compare. the few things you have given us we quickly show you five or ten others who do the same.

Quote :
"are you serious? semi-valid? why, because it's not easily dismissed?"

no, because even that example sux. he went on the commercial, that was shown once, and said "hey, choose life, k?" and now that's supposed to be proof that he is ramming his religious beliefs down everyone's throats at every opportunity? come on...

So if someone made a commercial for the KKK that said "hey, white power, k," you'd be cool with that?

each of you who is just dismissing the FotF commercial is oblivious to what they stand for and what that commercial meant

burro, you seem to have a huge problem with reading comprehension. stop mixing up my dislike of tebow for his support of the bigots at FotF with those who are complaining about religion

so, instead, you will play the guilt by association card now? FotF gave him the opportunity to say "choose life, k?", and you begrudge him for that? it's perfectly fine to dislike FotF. I'd imagine many people do. But to dislike a guy for showing up in a commercial they funded where he barely spoke at all about their mission or them? that's freaking absurd, man.

jesus christ man - do you understand english?

there is no "instead"

I did not come at his religion. i never changed tacks. my first two posts in this thread were calling him an awful QB. the next time I posted, it was to bring up the FotF commercial.

sorry you got so butthurt over your religious beliefs, but I wasn't in on that

oh, and BTW, he could have said "no thanks, FotF, I don't agree with what you stand for, so I'm not going to do this." but he didn't. call it guilt by association all you want. i'll continue to call it supporting a bigoted organization.

Lots of people who make it big in to the spotlight use it as a chance to promote their personal agenda. Big fucking deal. I don't like Shawn Penn as a person because he is a liberal fuck, but I still watch his movies. Quit being a little bitch, get over it and stfu. God bless your soul. Amen.

that's great...but here's the thing...I'M NOT BULLET and I never said those things about his religion. he can believe in whatever he wants, just as you can. I don't give a fuck about a person's personal religious belief; nor did I bring my own beliefs into the discussion.

but when they make an ad for a bigoted organization like FotF for the super bowl, well, I think I'm damn well entitled to not like him for it

the problem with defenders of tebow is they can't understand why you don't like tebow and think all of your arguments are moot because of their own personal beliefs (or a few unfunny editorials).

anyone who likes him as a player or sees him as a totem of their religious views demands you accept him and is unwilling to accept the fact that people can be not liked because they do things others don't agree with. it gets to the point where his defenders are more detrimental to his acceptance than anything he does. you seem to think you can browbeat or rationalize why every single last person in the world should like him. but you can't.

Gays and women aren't people, silly. Prospero doesn't think you can be bigotted against them.

But I am also truly offended by the stupidity and arrogance of thinking an omnipotent god can and should assist you with a sports event while millions of children suffer. The sheer stupidity of it all considering the other team is praying for the exact same thing. And finally the confirmation to millions of tv viewers that their unjustifiable beliefs are justified because good looking popular sports guy believes what they do.

Atheism isn't a religion, and science isn't a god. Trying to argue that they are is a terribly weak argument.

And why do you find it funny that no one is lamblasting the players for mocking tebow? I think he's deserving of mockery, because he goes overboard. They're not mocking other religous folks, but they're mocking him, because he goes overboard.

edit: and what's your fascination with not applying "guilt by association"? it's perfectly legit in this case. if he was on a ncaap commercial, wouldn't you associate him with ncaap, regardless of the message?

associating him with them might make sense. saying he is a terrible bigot because he appeared in one commercial and didn't even specifically promote that group is another. it's why the phrase "guilt by association" has a meaning, genius.

never said they were. you didn't get the point.

because they were putting on FAR MORE of a display than he ever does? that's why it's hypocritical. But, you have no problem with it, because it agrees with your beliefs. I have a problem with it because their specific intent is to be insulting and offensive. But apparently that's OK with you, too, as long as people make fun of someone or something you don't agree with. Because, say it with me, your god is better than their god.

you keep making the argument that people who apparently aren't religious (like me) think "their god is better than others", so i assumed you were saying atheism is a religion, or science is a god. if not, then i'm not sure what you're talking about. I'm not saying my god is better than yours (and if i was saying anything about that, it'd simply be "there is no god")

It's all in response to his pageantry. If he stopped, it'd stop.
