traditional is pecan pie or the sweet potato casserole but the tradition in my family is greens with pepper relish. No one really will fight me for it but I would be willing to if there were any takers. 11/21/2011 8:20:27 PM

There is a fast food joint in Buena Vista, Va called "Kenny's" and I always stop there and get a "sauce burger with onions, extra sauce" the day before.
That's my favorite thanksgiving food. 11/21/2011 8:24:55 PM

my family goes caserole crazy at thanksgiving, so the only thing I really enjoy is the turkey. bourbon soaked pecan pie gets an honorable mention, but I hate the extra 5 hours at the gym it takes to undo the damage of demolishing half a pie. 11/21/2011 8:51:19 PM

My favorites were 2 things that I'll never have again. My grandmothers greenbeans (I have no idea what she did to them, but I've tasted any that were like them since). The other was this homemade strawberry cake with strawberry icing that my grandma's friend used to make us every year. Will never taste it again either 11/21/2011 8:53:52 PM

There are typically 4 things on my plate. Turkey, stuffing, gravy, cauliflower with cheese melted all over it. When it's available, I'll take some brussels sprouts. By the time I'm done, there's usually not enough room left for pumpkin pie. 11/21/2011 8:55:06 PM

Because both my grandmother and her friend have both passed. And like I said, I have no idea what my grandma did to her green beans to make them taste the way did, and my mom has tried but she hasn't been able to make them the way Grandma did. And I wish I had gotten the strawberry cake recipe. I know there are several out there, but again none quite like that one.
Of the stuff that is still around I dig my dad's candied yams (which I made for Brett for the first time the other day), mom's mashed taters and gravy and deviled eggs, preferably when I'm the one who made them. 11/21/2011 10:46:29 PM

It's like a cross between cornbread and corn casserole.

Quote : | "4 tbsp. unsalted butter (1 tbsp. softened, 3 tbsp. melted) 3 cups milk 1 1/4 cups finely ground white cornmeal 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. fine salt 2 eggs, well beaten 1. Grease a 9" round cake pan with some of the softened butter. Cut out a parchment paper circle to fit inside the pan, nestle it into the bottom, and grease the paper with the remaining softened butter. Set the prepared pan aside. 2. In a 2-quart saucepan, bring the milk to a boil, whisking occasionally, over high heat. While whisking, pour in the cornmeal in a steady stream. Whisk vigorously to incorporate the cornmeal, for about 1 minute. Remove the pan from the heat and set aside to let the cornmeal mixture cool to room temperature. 3. Heat oven to 350°. Transfer the cornmeal mixture to the bowl of a standing mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Add the remaining butter, baking powder, salt, and eggs and mix on medium speed until uniform and aerated, about 15 minutes. 4. Pour cornmeal batter into the prepared pan and bake until golden brown and puffy and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Serve immediately. SERVES 6–8" |
But I also usually add corn kernels to it. 11/22/2011 8:52:16 AM

I am a little sad that as I have cleaned up my diet I don't enjoy most of these foods as much as I used to Except I had some sweet potato stuff last weekend that was baller. And I am in charge of bringing sweet potatoes this year, so I will attempt to recreate it. And I also love cornbread stuffing, but probably won't have that this year. 11/22/2011 9:46:10 AM
