This is why everything seems like a huge deal to you. This is why you'll never become a top dog in the firm. This is why you call me at 11:52pm and ask me to put out a fire by 2am. That fire being nothing more than corporate red tape that could wait to be completed tomorrow, won't be reviewed til next week, won't be used til next month.
Perspective. You lack it.

That's one theory. Another is that they promote the types where everything is a big deal and the types that receive a project at 8:00AM, sit on it the entire day, and hand it off as MISSION CRITICAL at 4:59PM. Keep in mind, the people above them only see that things are getting done, not how they are getting done or who is really doing it.
^That's certainly today's climate. Companies don't care about employees... you'd think they would be concerned with employee attrition but they don't care about that either. Of course a terrible economy helps facilitate. "We'll find someone that will" is always the great morale booster.

Yep. I consider myself very lucky to be working in a place where overtime is not expected, and the owner is actually loyal to his employees, not just the other way around. 12/2/2011 9:06:54 AM

The important thing is to know when to go above and beyond and have the result be that you're perceived as a high performing individual vs. going above and beyond and being perceived as a doormat.
I see it every day at work, and there are few who get the distinction. 12/2/2011 9:44:37 AM
