ok well I know this is probably a really simple problem. but I am stupid so give me a break lol
well here's my problem
the record player goes through an audio cable (with the red and white connectors) aaand when I have it plugged in correctly, sound only comes out of the right speaker - the other speaker just has light buzzing in it, as if something is not hooked up properly
when I reverse the white and the red cables, the audio switches to the left speaker
so I know it's not a problem with the speaker itself
so where is the problem? is it the turntable - is it the audio red/white cable that runs between, or is it the receiver/amplifier/whatever you call that thing
I was thinking it was the cables themselves... the turntable itself seems to work fine, and the receiver works fine otherwise (when I play cassettes or other audio)
another question
I use the phono input on the receiver to do two different things, so I am always switching out. are there any kind of devices that will allow you to double that up, so I can use the same port with multiple inputs, without having to switch out all the time?
I know these are all probably dumb questions, but I appreciate any advice and help that you guys can give me <3
I may just need to get a more up-to-date receiver/amplifier 12/1/2011 2:27:25 PM |

well, I don't have a different one that's just red/white on both ends
can I use one that has yellow/video on it on both ends? if so I can try that
my issue was just that I don't want to buy a new cable if that's not what the problem is
I know they're cheap but I wouldn't really need one for anything 12/1/2011 2:34:04 PM |

Check your cartridge connections to the tone arm. 12/1/2011 2:41:30 PM |

I was reading about the cartridge connection thing on another forum when I googled this but I don't know enough about it to figure out what that is
but I guess I can learn. 12/1/2011 2:42:34 PM |

I think if the tt turns out to be the problem, I'm going to buy one of the ones that has USB input and is capable of making mp3s 12/1/2011 2:45:20 PM |

I'd recommend disconnecting and reconnecting the four wires on the back of the cartridge. Google a connection diagram to make sure they are connected properly. 12/1/2011 2:53:06 PM |

USB turntables arent really that great.
you sound like a novice though so go for it.
its the tone arm but try the other cable to be sure, you can use it just dont use the yellow end. 12/1/2011 4:14:34 PM |

...do you have the grounding wire attached? Usually it's a screw post on the reciever.
And the tt should have a thin wire with a metal fork on the end of it.
