say you have a really good team, you did a great job drafting, making trades, etc. Because of your effort you kick ass all year. But, your QB is Rodgers, your TE is Gronkowski, etc. They have nothing to play for that last week, so they sit half the game and you lose.
Some leagues do shit where the playoffs start early and the FF season ends in week 15 or 16 or 17, but then you are losing a fair amount of the season which is also stupid. 12/18/2011 2:52:59 PM

if you're not thinking about every week of the season when you draft, you're not doing a great job drafting, thats user error, not a problem with playoffs
blaming "playoffs" for you losing a league is like blaming injuries, or a phantom holding call that brought back a would-be 50-yard TD by one of your players

no, that's stupid. If you think the NFL is that simple then you are kidding yourself. Parity, injuries, etc.
I just like to win, or lose, based on "skill" (as much skill as there is watching football) and effort rather than the dumb luck that week 17 of the NFL season is... to each their own.

you can draft for injuries...ie, I avoided Peyton Hillis like the plague in drafts this year after his banged up last 4 games last year
you don't want your top 3 picks to all have the same bye week, why is it so hard to plan for other weeks?
we can agree to disagree, but theres always luck involved...i've been the #1 seed in leagues and lost in the first round from a bad game, deal with it

no, that is fine... I am talking about if you somehow got Aaron Rodgers, by far the best player this year, you will be penalized in week 17 if he doesnt play the entire game. Does that mean you dont draft him? no, of course not. Just picture in real football if the Patriots sat Tom Brady in the super bowl, thats how dumb it is. 12/18/2011 3:05:37 PM

did you think the Packers were going to suck this year? every single year when you draft you should realize certain guys that year (if healthy) like Brees, Manning, Rodgers, Brady (although Belicheat likes to run up the score) have that possibility...if you're in a league with playoffs, you plan on that
its cool though, some people like dumbed down leagues 12/18/2011 3:09:49 PM

^^ any league worth a shit has a trade deadline WAY before the playoffs are decided. And why would you do that? Give up a keeper for next year to win playoffs because you magically cant play your best player? Like I said, picture the Pats getting to the super bowl, and then benching Brady.
^ nice try. You stick to luck, I'll stick to skill. Playoffs are to placate the stupid so they feel better and can maybe squeak in and get lucky. Especially leagues where you have stupid shit like 12 teams and 6 get in the playoffs

well with all that you shouldnt do head to head either, just total points for the year. every year somebody ends the reg season top 3 b/c of lucky matchups, they have one of the lowest points totals for AND against. 12/18/2011 3:13:25 PM

^^ not at all the same because in real football the best players play in the playoffs, HUGE difference
^ we threw around the idea, but head to head is a lot of fun and we have found over 9 years that the bad matchups tend to balance out most of the time over the course of a season (which cant happen in the playoffs doesnt because you are eliminated instantly)

All I know is that every single playoff league that I have been in, the champion won with some bullshit related to it, great players sitting on the bench, or teams already in not giving a shit and their defense plays like shit week 17 etc.

i'm on my way to being 14-1, 13-2 at the worst after this week (final week of regular season) and coasting into the playoffs this year...in your type of league, i'm king shit, i fucking run everything, based on my stellar drafting, free agent moves, and flex choices like the proper weeks to play Laurent Robinson versus Shonn Greene, i've established the best regular season record so i should win
your only argument seems to be "well lets say you had Aaron Rodgers"
well i'd call you a dumbshit for drafting a QB in the first round

that doesnt even make sense... not even sure where to start. First off, Rodgers was kept, so not sure what you are even talking about there... and if you have that record someone else could too, but if not, then you deserve to win for clearly being better than everyone, I have no problem with that. It WOULD be bullshit though if you had to do a playoff and the champ. game was against some 7-8 team and you have say, Baltimores defense and he has Seattles. Your defense rests for half that final week and they give up 35 points to fucking Arizona. Seattle's mighty defense plays the 49ers who rest all their starters, you lose. Awesome!

bottomline is i've made the finals of fantasy football leagues with playoffs and lost to teams who i was 3 to 4 games better than in the regular season, NOT because anybody was benched, but because the Giants defense gets lucky and scores 3 defensive touchdowns, or jamaal charles rushes for 250 yards
