That's the problem with the libertarians in general is that for every great idea they have a terrible to batshit insane one to sort of cancel it out.

Decriminalize drugs and treat it as a public health issue.
Remove all banking regulations.
You can fuck or do whoever you want as long as they consent we don't care
Get rid of income tax and the IRS
Repeal the patriot act and restrict government surveillance of citizens.
Eliminate the minimum wage

^^^ ok, so you're a Democrat/leftist. Got it.

Right wing Republicans could make a similar but opposite list.

All you're basically saying is that there are differing world views and political philosophies.

even with that said, many of the states have already stepped in. For example, there are only five states that do no have a minimum wage.

johnson:

Quote :
" I would say I am surprised that the CPD has chosen to exclude me from the first debate, but I’m not. After all, the Commission is a private organization created 30 years ago by the Republican and Democratic parties for the clear purpose of taking control of the only nationally-televised presidential debates voters will see. At the time of its creation, the leaders of those two parties made no effort to hide the fact that they didn’t want any third party intrusions into their shows.

The only time a third candidate has been allowed on the stage was 1992, when both parties wanted him on the stage for their own purposes. It should be noted that, when Perot was allowed on the stage, polls showed his support to be in single digits, below where Johnson and Weld are currently polling.

The CPD may scoff at a ticket that enjoys ‘only’ 9 or 10% in their hand-selected polls, but even 9% represents 13 million voters, more than the total population of Ohio and most other states. Yet, the Republicans and Democrats are choosing to silence the candidate preferred by those millions of Americans.

Americans are tired of rigged systems, and the monopoly on debates created by the CPD is a prime and skillfully executed example.

Bill Weld and I will continue to fight to provide a voice and an alternative for independents, disenfranchised Republicans and Democrats, Millennials and others who aren’t satisfied with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton as their options.

It is unfortunate that the CPD doesn’t believe such a voice should be heard. There are more polls and more debates, and we plan to be on the debate stage in October."

mixed feelings here. he was so horrible in the town halls not sure i want him to be the libertarian representative. wish we could have gotten austin petersen

Well, that was all fucked up.

Anyway, she's polling 31% with millenials, Johnson is at 29, Trump 26. She's faded badly amongst that demo in the last couple months.

"Name a leader" is not a trap question just like "name a newspaper" wasn't a trap question.

I felt a little sympathy for him when he admitted he didn't know what Aleppo is. A president should know what it is but hey he fucked up and owned up to it. Now though, Christ dude learn from your mistakes.

It's a trap question because there are no libertarian world leaders so any answer is going to alienate supporters when the media points out the bad things "Gary Johnsons idol" has done. Furthermore, memory is not a very valuable trait in thevery age of instant information. It's much more important to be able to process information, think critically and make good judgement decisions than to remember lists of names, dates and places in order to recite talking points. that "skill" isn't going to accomplish anything other than convincing the uneducated masses that you know what you're doing.

If he fucked it up due to it being a trap question than why did he give a valid answer? He could have explained what you said. Instead he just admitted he couldn't remember a guy's name. That's not a trap question

The thing about trap questions is that they catch you off guard because they don't make sense at the time. so why would you prepare for them? the answer to the question doesn't matter and instead of talking policy like he prepared to do, they brought him in and wasted some of the little time they give him on a pointless question. In the back of his mind, he's fighting emotions of anger and " why are they doing this to me"

He obviously was flustered and probably trying to figure out if the name was a name he would regret saying. The media can go back and make a headline about " Gary johnson supports Mexican president who said racists things about black people" or "weld looks up today Merkel who is destroying europe by letting all of the immigrants, is this what he wants to do to the us?". There is no good answer.

You think the media cares enough about Gary Johnson to scrutinize his answers that much?

Every question has the potential to elicit an answer that can be bent a thousand different ways, this one is no worse than any other question. At least this question is open enough that you get to craft your answer almost any way you want. You think a better question would have been, "Shouldn't a president be quick enough to recognize a city name on the second repetition?"?

I find it funny that people are surprised the libertarian candidate is an idiot. Just look at what they believe: "All these things are a problem, but we're ok with the causes.". Stupid ideology, stupid candidates.

A better question would have been to ask him about a policy or anything that actually matters instead of the game show trivia Bullshit the media has turned our election into.

our nation is crumbling but the media can't take one second to stop talking about every other country besides the one he is running for office in.

I'm not running for president but there's no foreign leaders now worth looking up to.

Merkel seems like the only principled leader left and is struggling for it. UK, and Australia are struggling against nationalism, Brazil is mired in corruption, Putin is obviously out... it's not a question with a clear answer, but I guess Johnson could have said this instead of whatever he did.

Justin Trudeau would be my answer but its especially tricky for johnson because all of the rich countries have big government leaders and all of the developing countries doing well have big time atrocities you could point to and say "how could a presidential candidate support such a violation of human rights".

I've been thinking about it since this happened, and I can't really think of any either. Merkel, no. Trudeau, no. Netanyahu, no. Theresa May, no. Hollande, no. Abe, no. and so on, and so on. Maybe the Pope, but he's really a religious leader more than an actual head of state.

We're living in a time of very mediocre leaders with some real shits thrown in for good measure. Might explain why there are some real global problems right now that weren't as prevalent in the late 90s to early 2000s.

we've just gotten to the point of being so "smart" that people in high positions are just looked at as people and not leaders. we've been able to expose every little flaw in people so much that any mention of someone you may look up to is pretty much an endorsement that you support any number of their failed policies/ideologies/etc. It's pretty much the end of considering people's greatness (except in sports) and we'll probably stop putting up statues, knighting people, and giving someone sainthood because every person from here on out who swims against the stream is just a regular person who is wrong in some way or another.

Check the front page of CNN. Their MO is to squash any 3rd party movement early before it gains credibility with the masses.

"Why is Gary Johnson still in the race?" is the main headline of a major news source.

It's a legitimate question. He's in over his head and stands zero chance of winning. If I were a libertarian, I'd be embarrassed to have him as the face of the party.

Yeah he's so over his head just imagine the first day of his presidency how the country will fall apart because he doesn't know which foreign leader to pray to and the cia has to use waze to find out how to deliver the next shipment of arms into Aleppo.

According to democrats, every candidate besides hillary is crazy and all of their supporters are subject to immediate namecalling if they don't buy into the narratives being pushed by their party to dismiss all opposition. THATS revealing.

So jacked up on the party narrative that they see a progressive calling the media out on their BS as support for Trump and Johnson. Whose wearing the blinders?

I don't know where you got the idea I'm a huge Hillary fan. I'm not. I've never really liked her and I wish someone like Elizabeth Warren would have ran instead of her. But I'm also pretty pragmatic and I know how politics work in this country. Until the Electoral College goes away, we are stuck with a dysfunctional two party system. With that said, I have zero problems voting for her, given how truly deplorable the other options are. You seem to latch onto whatever political flavor of the month suits you and you have a really difficult time grasping basic concepts. You might want to take some political science classes if you want to really under politics better.

I'll give it to you on that. You came back with a sophisticated insult instead of the typical namecalling.

Quote :

Well we're saying that the way politics "work" is the main problem.

Quote :
" Until the Electoral College goes away, we are stuck with a dysfunctional two party system."

Did you learn this in a political science course? Tell me more...

Quote :
"given how truly deplorable the other options are."

you think stein is deplorable because she was too worried about the health of young children around wifi. that was wrong but I don't see how an abundance of caution is "deplorable". Relatively speaking, I'd much rather wrongfully have banned devices to children under 5 and never had the iraq war. One mistake killed a lot of people and ruined the future of multiple countries. Now you think johnson is deplorable because he would clearly lose a game of tuesday night trivia at your local bar.
Quote :
"You seem to latch onto whatever political flavor of the month suits you"

Actually no. I've been in the green party for 5 years and was willing to support bernie as a compromise because I'm able to see beyond party lines unlike most people.
Quote :
"you have a really difficult time grasping basic concepts."

You should be able to identify the concepts if you understand them and can diagnose my problem but you never do because you are confusing things that oppose your views as a "difficulty grasping concepts". You really think everyone would agree with you if they just took a few more classes and learned more. This is probably a self reflection of how you were indoctrinated by someone who taught you the status quo and supported the establishment.

I'm glad I was fortunate enough to become an independent thinker who can also appreciate diversity of opinion because thats a rare thing in this country.

Don't think media endorsements mean much, but still surprising to see such an establishment mouthpiece endorse the Libertarian candidate for president.
