Quote : | "Homeless people in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., now have an alternative to shelters: A one-way bus ticket out of the city, thanks to a $25,000 program approved by city commissioners on Tuesday.
To qualify, participants must prove they have family in their destination city who is willing to let them move in. Advocates of the Homeless Reunification Program - which is financed not by taxpayers but by the Florida Law Enforcement Trust Fund, which is composed of money confiscated from criminals - told Florida's Sun-Sentinel this gives people living on the streets a second chance they wouldn't be getting otherwise." |
Where have I heard this idea before... where... where...

some douchebag DJ from atlanta (southside steve) and his crew did this a few months ago - gathered up all the willing homeless guys in the city, gave them full checkups/medical care, clothes, and $100 if they got on a bus to new mexico and promised to never come back. 12/21/2011 3:52:25 PM

I actually saw a Raleigh Cop tell a homeless guy to get on the bus and to go to Durham while I was on my way from the library to Charley's Grilled Subs for lunch. The homeless guy said, "But I don't live there," to which the cop replied, "doesn't matter, you can't stay here."
Is that place still open? They had excellent Philly cheese steaks. 12/21/2011 4:37:18 PM

the idea was initiated from the homeless always asking for money for "a bus ticket to my uncle house"
ive tried several times to take them to the bus station to make sure they board and leave but they never seem to be ok with that option. they just want the $0.73. 12/21/2011 5:06:58 PM

They did this Atlanta in '96 before the Olympics, to clean up the streets before the world's eyes shone upon them. 12/21/2011 11:12:36 PM

Yeah, but they did this by making the participants sign a contract saying they will never return to Atlanta. Plus they past an ordinance that the cops could arrest you for loitering if you look suspicious for looking at cars and trying to open locked doors...
