she may want to stick with liking pink and baby dolls so that she won't end up looking like this

if she does what she ought to she could end up being like this

Also, boys and girls are equal. The fact that one had a penis and one has a vagina was a mistake.

haha i didn't say you needed to be astounded by her insight. i said you're threatened by the fact that she doesn't follow your typical white male idea that women should all be subservient princesses

So she's saying girls have to guy the pink stuff and that companies are actively trying to trick girls into wanting the princess crap. Real insightful. 12/27/2011 8:39:31 PM

She's clearly being fed what to say by her parents. Particularly her father, who keeps prompting what she should say next.
And I've never seen a toy store that only carries pink and dolls for girls.

You get up to the register and they won't let a little girl purchase a toy that is intended for a boy.

1. Why did you think it was a good idea to bring race into this discussion? Really? 2. How do you draw a correlation between being a princess and being subservient? Princesses' servants are subservient. Princesses themselves wield great power and influence.
You just make up evils to fit the stereotypes in your head, don't you? It's ok to admit it. It'll make your future self a more open minded person. 12/27/2011 9:42:51 PM

I mean, I have a 5-year old daughter, and she would far rather do the kid's rock-climbing wall at the park than play with Barbie. She pretty much doesn't give a shit about dolls. At the same time, she's no tomboy...she's very much a little girl in many (most) ways.
The point is, to the extent that she ventures outside of gender stereotypes, and to the extent that I encourage it, nobody's (a) being douchey about it, or (b) making it out like it's bad when she IS playing with Barbie or playing with a toy kitchen set. 12/27/2011 9:58:43 PM

Excuse me for being sarcastic toward the knuckle-draggers posting in this thread. Allow me to elaborate.
Girls in white households tend to be brought up as helpless, coddled princesses. Not princesses in the respect of "members of the royal family". I'm talking about princesses in a tower prison, waiting to be rescued by their brave prince. (See: Rapunzel, Cinderella, Snow White, a multitude of other Disney movies). This is partly due to marketing/advertising and partly due to the dying cultural ideal that women are inferior, helpless individuals. And it's dying because of people like this little girl and her family. 12/27/2011 10:01:56 PM

Have you actually watched Disney movies? The Princesses aren't really portrayed as helpless. I think TheDuke is spot on here. 12/27/2011 10:04:24 PM

Maybe, but without knowing them and being forced to make some inferences based on that video, I think they're likely overcorrecting. To borrow from a cliche, they're gonna make her so open-minded that her brain falls out. 12/27/2011 10:15:17 PM

Good God some people are reading way too much into a little girl just wanting a superhero doll put in the same spot as the princess dolls. I think the real tragedy here is she's too goddamn lazy to walk all the aisles of the stores to buy her toys. 12/27/2011 10:19:18 PM
