Quote :
"Shopping under the influence has long benefited high-end specialty retailers — witness the wine-and-cheese parties that are a staple of galleries and boutiques. Now the popularity of Internet sales has opened alcohol-induced purchases to the masses, including people like Ms. Whitten, who works in shipping and receiving and spent just $5 on the cat-shaped phone cover.

Chris Tansey, an accountant in Australia, went shopping online after drinking late one night (to be precise, it was well into the morning). By the end of the session, he had bought a $10,000 motorcycle tour of New Zealand.

“The hang-ups of spending your hard-earned cash are so far removed from your life when you’ve had a bottle of wine,” Mr. Tansey said in an e-mail. The New Zealand trip was terrific, he said. But a pair of $3 sunglasses on eBay “turned out to be horrible fakes, with $17 of postage that I obviously didn’t see with beer goggles.”"

Have any of you done this before? I can't ever recall buying something while drunk other than more drinks and maybe some cheese sticks.

^^ lol there have been a few times when I've driven past that statue store near the farmers' market while drunk and thought "I MUST HAVE THAT CONCRETE GIRAFFE!"

I've never heard "hone in on". Funny semantics, though.

On topic, being online in general is a terrible idea when intoxicated.

I'm looking at you, Facebook and Amazon!

Wonder if my HOA would be pissed if I bought this for my front yard:

"Boris the Brontosaurus Garden Dinosaur Statue

Our most spectacular outdoor sculpture EVER wandered in from the Jurassic period!

Larger-than-life and equally dramatic, our seven-foot-tall sauropod is head-and-shoulders above all other garden sculptures we've ever offered! Our artists captured every detail of this attention-demanding beast, then cast it in high-quality designer resin and hand-painted it with utmost authenticity. Though the brontosaurus originally fed in the grasslands, our sure-to-impress fellow is just as happy lounging next to your pool, feeding along your garden path or peering over your neighbor's fence. Nothing short of amazing, our imposing signature piece will have guests talking non-stop about this exclusive Jurassic giant! For easy assembly, ships in 4 pieces. Bring inside during freezing temperatures.

30"Wx153"Lx84"H. 238 lbs.

Entire markets are built around the expectation that to yield maximum profits, consumers will need to be intoxicated.
