on a 2002 Ford Explorer, limited edition? I have read the owners manual and looked at the section with the fuses and there does not seem to be a fuse specifically for the alarm ... but I should be able to disable it right?

Car alarms are meant to be difficult to disable obviously. If it was that easy there'd be a lot more cars stolen.

^yeeeeeea, but they CAN be disabled by taking out the fuse.... which is why I am asking if anyone knows where that would be on a 2002 ford explorer

Can you explain why exactly you need to disable the alarm? There may be a better solution than pulling a fuse, which could very well be tied into other vehicle components and systems such as the starter.

If it's a factory alarm from quick google results it sounds like sticky door ajar sensors or broken wiring at the bellows boot in the drivers door. I'd pull the fuse for the horn by itself and see if something as simple as a door latch needed to be lubricated depending on your situation.

Chief, that is what I was concerned about if I took it out. The thing is there seems to be an electrical short that may or may not involve the automatic locks and possibly the door ajar sensor. The car alarm goes off after the time it takes you to walk inside and forget where you set down the car alarm. If I do not lock the car, then it won't go off.... but this is a security issue obviously. I guess that I wouldn't need a horn, so that can be a temporary fix

As an easy check take it to a auto parts place to check the battery condition. If that passes I'm only going to be an armchair mechanic trying to solve any possible electrical shorts you might be experiencing. zxappeal, jeepman, smc and some of the other guys on here would better diagnose it in person for some beer money probably.

can you not lock it with the key or by actually manually pressing the door lock button? you should be able to lock it without arming the alarm.

the problem sounds like a moisture issue in one of the door pins. i bet if you were to lock it and stand there for a few minutes looking inside you'd see the dome light turn on for a few seconds.

that's the thing, when I manually lock it from the inside it still sets off the alarm

the locks occasionally freak out and lock and unlock when I start the car, also the door ajar sensor is usually on, I think some of the issue is resolved because there was a cheap plastic piece (should have been metal) in the trunk door latch that was interfering with the door ajar sensor and making the car do this crazy beeping thing that almost made me not want to get it. Then I removed out the worn out plastic, and it stopped... but the alarm went off again this morning at 6am
