I have AT&T Uverse, but i've had a continual series of outages and am fed up with their service at this point.

I really dislike TWC, but may have to switch back to them. DirectTV is out because their internet option is a bit lame and too expensive.

What other options are there?

viasat is launching their new service in the coming week or so. You'll have pings of 500ms, but the bandwidth seems to be very solid, and for modest coin.

^WTF? That's got to be the worst suggestion I've ever heard of. The only reason anyone would go with Satellite internet is if they had absolutely no other options. $50 a month gets you 5GB of total bandwidth.

good grief. The man wanted all his options. He can decide if they fit his needs or not. I didn't know they were going to put limits on it.

For what it's worth we're probably getting one as a failover connection. We don't care about latency - only bandwidth. We got big files to move.

Seriously though, it's a horrible technology that should only be used as an absolute last resort (as in, you live so far out in the boonies that dial up isn't even an option).

They claim 12 Mbps, but I really want to see what the sustainable speeds are once the system comes under load. I'd be amazed if you saw half of that. For anyone that lives in anything even remotely resembling a populated area, they'd be better off with just about any other form of broadband. Even 3G cellular based tech puts this to shame. And if 4G is an option? Forget about it.

TIL that dialup and 1 bar of 3g cell service are better options than 12Mb/3Mb satellite.

That should read dial up is your only option. But as far as 3G goes, I don't get much better than 1-2 bars and have no problems sustaining a 4-5Mbps download. I may end up eating my words (like I said, I'm curious) but if I was a betting man, I'd take the 3G connection all day long.

I consider myself rational, so I would want to explore all of my options, but the OP is asking for options outside of the two players in a duopoly.

Anything else by my standards is not suitable for a primary source of internet therefore Aliens.
