1997 Subaru Legacy Outback for sale, make offer. Automatic transmission, high mileage (163K+), green exterior in good shape, clean interior, new tires.
Car overheats and I can't determine the cause. Selling as is. 1/21/2012 6:19:55 PM |

it has a blown headgasket....just about every one of them from that era does it.
not a tough fix, but driving it with the problem is prone to crack the block, especially if you have poured cold water into the radiator to add to the system. 1/21/2012 6:24:58 PM |

Where are you located? How far can it be driven in it's current state before the overheating gets dangerous? 1/21/2012 7:51:57 PM |

If this is NOT the one that my friend attempted to put 3 junkyard motors in, I will offer you $400.
That one had a clogged radiator from someone trying the "headgasket in a can" shit 1/22/2012 6:23:41 PM |

[Edited on January 23, 2012 at 5:33 PM. Reason : like $600, $1000 if you looked at it and it looked good, $750, etc] 1/23/2012 5:31:40 PM |

i just wondered how people that know cars determine how much to bid on something with an obvious problem that costs several hundred to fix at a shop. 1/25/2012 2:39:29 AM |

^ It's a lot more than $everal hundred at a shop for these cars. The boxer engine is not an easy one to replace the head gaskets (there are two of them.)
