from 0-10, and be prepared to post evidence if claiming over a 7.

I fluctuate between a 1.5 and 2. Alcohol makes that number go down.

i love to sing but don't like making recordings, so i'll go with 6.5 for general pleasantness/ability to carry a tune

Probably a four or so. I'm not a great singer, but I can carry a tune, and I know my range. I'm mostly just loud though. I wish I could harmonize, but I can't "hear" what the notes should be.

in high school i would say 7'ish...

i was a member of both a national award winning chorus and vocal ensemble...

however...too many drunken nights that lasted WAY too long over the last 15 years put a severe strain on my voice...

i'm probably closer to a 3-4 now...

i can still sing in tune...but i can't hit notes that any girl should be able to...i have to sing nearly a full octave lower to be able to hit even the most basic notes...

4-5. my vocal talent isn't that great but understanding things like rhythm, intonation, and phrasing, make me sound less amateur than I am. It doesn't help I'm in that weird half alto half tenor range.

I'm trying to learn how to not sound cacophonous. When people are "naturals" or whatever, are they basically hearing a progression of say C D Em G and singing notes in C D Em G or are they singing notes that just go well with the chords similar to improvising a guitar solo?

Did any of that even make sense? I AM NOT GOOD WITH COMPUTER MUSIC.

a solid 6.5 if i stay in my range and the correct type of music, I can sing country very well but I will never be the lead singer of a death metal band.

I am the lead singer of a death metal band

so where does that put me, 0? on the other hand, the power and muscle control I've developed from doing that for years has actually made my operatic (baritone, methinks) quite solid. really only lacking in extended range, the upper registers of which having been virtually destroyed by the style that developed it in the first place . I'd put it at a solid 7

Out of all the songs he could have chosen, that one seems like the most likely to piss off PC Chinese Americans

^^that is why it is fucking hilarious, the anchors called it an "american folk song"

Buffet you do realize we made chinese immigrants build the transcontinental railroad for shitty money and then told them they can't stay, right?

awful, but i can whistle and hum excellently

i was in chorus in 4th/5th grade, and even had a solo though. which is bizarre now that i think about it, because i have a speech impediment and was even in speech therapy during those grades. makes you wonder if they did that on purpose for their own amusement

Same here. Chorus my entire life (Middle & High School), did all county chorus a few years (High School), even did some solos in those days.

Too much drinking, smoking. and generally not practicing singing to be very good any more.

Can still sing well within a range, but that range has narrowed tremendously

I'd say a 7, good enough to get a scholarship for all four years of college, not good enough to make it my career.

I can carry my own tune well enough to participate in All State Chorus and sing accurately enough to wrack up the points on Karaoke Revolution, but my voice really isn't pleasant enough for anyone to want to listen to on its own.

there was a time when i was probably a 9. 3 octave range, son.

years of smoking and not taking care of my voice have put it at probably a 7-8. more like 2.5 octaves now.

Karaoke song would probably be You Oughta Know by Alanis Morrisette but that is probably multiple people's.

[Edited on January 23, 2012 at 1:33 PM. Reason : I have sang that jammie multiple times at Karaoke events. ]

[Edited on January 23, 2012 at 1:34 PM. Reason : I'm a nervous pervous when in front of people. Not a good performer.]
