i've gotten probably 20-30 calls in the past few days from this number.. answered a couple of times, and they want to give me a $100 gift card to wal-mart

i asked to be removed from the list each time, but alas, more calls. the second time the guy laughed at me and said he would remove my number.

is this considered harassment?

if you slept with wal-mart and tell her you are going to call, then you made this happen to yourself.

not yet, but you are getting there...

"Then i ask to be removed from the calling list like i'd ask the previous representative to do; all of a sudden someone else gets on the call and says they are not my servant and she would put on the list to call me 500 more times. I have called my local police department's non-emergency number to report this number."

and this....

All you have to do is:

1. Ask for a company name.
2. Threaten to contact the BBB

You can skip to step 2 if you want to just play it like you already know who they are. Legitimate companies that use illegitimate tactics cripple to the threat of the Better Business Bureau.

Not even close to true. You know the BBB is a private organization that doesn't have any kind of governmental authority, right? Illegitimate companies don't give a shit about the BBB. I say this as a former employee of a shady-as-shit Internet "nutraceutical" company.

I say this from my experience with telemarketing for a "shady-as-shit" company as well. Any time anyone so much as mentioned the phrase "BBB", the whole charade was called off.

But then again, that was one experience, isolated to that one environment.

Legitimate company using illegitimate tactics = illegitimate company.

Well, maybe I should rephrase it as "legitimate company with very loose guidelines for employees".

But yeah, like I said, it was an isolated experience on my part. I just know that even if someone so much as muttered "BBB" (in any context), the plug was pulled. But that may have been because the company had been shut down more than once already.

Any company using these marketing tactics is illegitimate as far as I am concerned. Regardless of what the BBB has to say about it

try to sell them something in return. Re-iterate that you have a great business opportunity for them and for only 10 easy payments of 9.95, they too can enjoy the success you are getting at the great opportunity. Act now, surely this opportunity won't hold for long.

I used to get that one too when i had a land line. In fact, within 15 minutes of AT&T hooking up my phone line I started getting nailed with telemarketing calls. At first I figured that AT&T must sell phone numbers to telemarketers so I was pissed. Come to find out these companies have auto-dialers that just dial numbers in sequence until they get a hit.

I've been having the same issue with, what seems to be, a different set of scammers. Got another call yesterday but didn't pick up. They don't give a damn if you're on the DNC registry.
