This is truly frustrating. I make too much to apply for federa;, state or local financial assistance, but I don't take enough home to pay all the bills....it is not like I wanted to be like this....no one does.

Clearly you must quit your job, then.

Or, go back to basics and get rid of some bills by any means necessary.

Or, join Occupy Wall Street.

Or, drop off the radar and take only cash jobs and you travel the country.

Lots of options.

Yup, pretty simple solutions here fella. Either decrease your expenditures or increase your income. I suggest trying to find something approx. 20 hrs. a week, maybe overnight. It's amazing how much of a difference an extra $400-500 a month makes, and on top of that you'll probably go out less and spend less because you'll be working more.

my house was robbed before Christmas...my car died forever on 01-06-2012....and now the electric wiring is screwed up in the house...and my well pump died for the 3rd time in four years. I can no longer afford this house. It has been cursed and a money pit since I bought it...it even passed a very thorough inspection before I bought it....very bad bad luck that shows little signs of letting up so I live for the day.

I guess I sympathize with the OP because I know how it is not making enough to support yourself even after working 70+ hours a week for 6 months.

You don't want to hear what?

You're telling him to ditch his family and give up on his health to conform to what you think he should be doing.

He's in a tough spot for sure, if his story is real. Hopefully he has family to lean on.

It might be time though to sell the house, and consider an apartment though. Your maintenance costs are far less and there's no property tax, and rent is probably cheaper than a mortgage.

I have no assets..she took everything of value....
All my family lives in Indiana and my dad passed away many years ago. My mom got laid off when her job went to Mexico so no help there....

Hoping for a good tax return to help me get another car and help find another place to live. The Veteran's Administration said they can help with "transistional housing"

I am figuring it out. The government doesn't owe me anything. But I work and pay taxes for people who could work but don't and they get the assistance I could really use right now. Ultimately it is my life and my own worry. Big banks get bailed out. Mortgage companies got bailed out. Other countries get bailed out.....US tax dollars pissed away.....

I have even been told to quit a job just so I could get assistance.

What's wrong with your car?

If you can still make the mortgage I'd say stay in the house and not worry about the small shit that goes wrong there. Selling the house is going to be tough, no doubt.

I hear you on the alimony/child support, that can be a real bitch.

since you've got a piece of property you could plant a garden this spring
that could save you some money

you can also visit food banks for assistance

I'll be the first person to tell you that you're just getting the shit trolled out of you because you posted this in chit chat, zifnab.

Good luck with the financial stuff.

Also, moron, a lot of rentals really are priced the same or worse than a mortgage these days unless you have an HOA. Interest rates are ridiculously low and buying a house is really pretty affordable. I mean I'm paying about as much for this house I'm closing on tomorrow as I would be (monthly) for a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment in a similar area. Granted, I'm in Cary, but still I'm amazed that these corporate-managed apartments around here try to rent for $1100+/mo when I can buy a house for slightly less than that with a bit more square footage and on half an acre.

so have you actually applied and been turned down for assistance?

they take into account alimony/child support and even your bills to determine if you qualify for food stamps, everything else is much harder to get but a couple hundred a month can help a lot.

but definitely consider a big change/move because this kind of stress will knock years off your life.

Did you not hear the Prayer Breakfast, Obama said we are here to bail people out. Sadly, his evidence for God supporting a tax upon the masses to force them to be equalized/ charitable towards the poor is missing within the whole Bible, from the OT on down to the NT.

"The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat."

Pro 13:4

There is nothing wrong with increasing taxes to help people out of poverty or support the destitute, but perhaps someone can answer me why when people suggest drug testing welfare recipients everyone thinks it's some huge slap in the face by some super rich pricks?

I had to get drugged tested for my partime job, which I'd imagine was less than gov't welfare. So in order to make money I can't be a drug addict, but to receive support I can do w/e I want.

There is a difference between the gov't handling social security and

"If there be among you a poor man of one of your brothers within any of your gates in your land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother:"

Deut 15:7

The moral of the story is when we create a system where one could easily receive money for nothing as work for money. Why would they work for money? So instead of helping people get back into jobs, which is difficult seeing as only the gov't is hiring, and there aren't exactly the best at a balanced budget, we just create a dependence system.

I don't want there to be poor people. I don't want high taxes. Taxes make people poorer. Taxes take away from the productive class and give to the politically well connected class.

It would be one thing if the tax money was actually distributed fairly and equitably. It's not.

well this is like wow....this thread got moved to Chit Chat....not the place I'd pick for it.....but whatever.

My home is in foreclosure and I live in NC not Indiana...that is where my mom lives. I work and my kids are here in the triangle....so moving back home without them is not an option. I am also seperated and going through a divorce.

I have been turned down for all financial assistance by Durham Co Social Services and the like. The Veteran's Admin. will help but only when I am almost homeless due to limited space. I have qualified for some type of legal aid to assist me in the foreclosure process but will not know how until next week...

I didn't really start this thread to recieve sympathy or to stir up things. I am just an average guy and posting things here helps because it is like talking about it....it gets things off my chest....
