Think of how much classified data can be leaked now! Also, videos of murdered Iranian children can hit the web at 4G speeds 2/3/2012 12:43:45 PM

It is interesting but there are a lot a hurdles to clear. Will phones be classified or unclassified? Unclass limits what they can do. Classified would allow a greater access to information but the phones would have to be securable. The problem with this is that it creates security holes in the secret network because the phones could fall into the wrong hands. This could be mitigated by using cryptocodes that changed at least daily and by compartmentalizing data on a mobile only network where data is added and removed as needed. 2/3/2012 1:39:55 PM

should give them nextels
then when they're moving silently during a covert op, radio silence, hand signals only, they'll get a "BE-BEEP" chirp and somebody like "WOOOOOO WASSUP BO!" 2/3/2012 2:21:22 PM

The phones would be modified so that they could carry classified data, making them classified artifacts. The interesting thing is that these phones most likely will serve a dual purpose in both the classified and unclassified world. With that....there are very specific rules that have to be followed with classified computers, which this essentially is. I know it would be very impractical to enter complex codes to access the phone every time it needed to be turned on. I just happen to think it's all very insecure.
Side note: I guess we all knew smart phones would be on the battlefield soon enough. It's a great idea for troop awareness and information sharing. 2/3/2012 2:24:47 PM

Classified and unclass don't mix. The phones will be classified at the highest level of the information on them. You can have unclass on a classified system but you cannot have classified on an unclass system. 2/3/2012 2:29:24 PM

Not to far from reality. Imagine a fighter linked to a smartphone and the smartphone user texts in the airstrike by sending a picture, location, description and task. 2/3/2012 2:33:04 PM
