I wonder if they are working on this in a desert somewhere, and whether the people working on them are infected with nano technology that is controlling them. Then maybe the infectious nano bots are slowly allowing the feeble human brain to 'discover' this nano technology that these infectious bots are based on. This quietly allow them to be widely accepted (since it is a "human" creation) and becomes commonly used in society. Then this new tech become ubiquitous enough so that when they flip the switch they have absolute power over the meak and powerless human race.

A guy in my branch works on developing control algorithms for quadracopters. He hired an intern last summer whose sole job was to just play with them to see if the algorithms worked. They took a conference room, removed the furniture and filled it with pillows and nets for their test area. I really wanna go take a nap in there.
