Anybody ever play this game? I just played Myst again the past couple of days. Aside from a few parts, the game as a whole really wasn't that bad. I started playing Riven and.....holy shit, this game is fuck you hard.
Still, very addicting, very fun, and very surreal. I don't think there has been anything else quite like it. 2/3/2012 4:17:45 PM |

Played it a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it aside from the numerous times I got stuck cracking some sort of code. Never finished it, I guess it's worth picking back up? 2/3/2012 4:58:34 PM |

The puzzles are like genuinely hard, not fake hard like the old Kings Quest, Space Quest games where the difficulty was due to some interactivity issue that can't be solved using in-game reasoning. Riven is great. Well, there was this one time where to solve one puzzle you had to realize that you could turn left and right in this one doorway... but anyway. There are lots of old games that are really good, lots of talent went into them. I suppose in the big picture it's not worth the time to play them though. Except that a game like Riven is actually good for your brain. 2/4/2012 10:15:15 AM |

Riven was an amazing game (a lot of the FPS point clicks from that era were).
But I hated it for one very specific reason:

I won't lie... I bought the strategy guide that told me how to solve it and beat it...
but then again, I was 14 (it came out in 97) and didn't have the patience..
I should get it back out and start from scratch... I can't remember any of it so it would be like playing it for the first time. 2/4/2012 12:09:29 PM |

I tried it after myst as well, and gave up. 2/4/2012 4:00:26 PM |

I was able to solve every problem in the game except for ^^^ that one right there. I guessed what I had to do, and I was actually right, but I couldn't get the damn thing to work right. Eventually had to cheat to get past it. 2/4/2012 5:55:49 PM |

Just finished this game today. This game is fucking amazing and is well worth the time if you haven't played it. I've never played anything else like it, and it was thoroughly satisfying from start to finish. The puzzles are fairly difficult, but they aren't cheap shots or bullshit. Everything in the game, including puzzles, fits extremely well into the game world and the storyline, and the solutions are always logical.
This is one of the best games I have played in years and I'm genuinely disappointed that it's over. 2/11/2012 8:21:10 PM |

I really should pick it up. Myst was amazing. I beat that one almost all on my own. The only areas that I had to look up were the cart that buzzed different sounds as you got to each juncture and the mystery of the half letter. 2/11/2012 9:18:27 PM |

Both Myst I and Riven are on Steam. Myst 1 isn't a bad game but its puzzles seem very sloppy after playing Riven. I cannot stress just how fucking awesome Riven is and how worth playing it is if you haven't ever picked it up before. 2/12/2012 2:00:21 AM |
