CJ has been our "glue guy" this year, a great leader, and his play has been really efficient. I attribute a lot of our success this year to having him in the lineup. And honestly, he's one of the more high character players we've had recently.

I'll be the first to admit I never thought he would be an ACC caliber starter.
His first 3 years were really inconsistent, but that's in part because he played for such a terrible coach. 2/4/2012 9:25:13 PM |

Williams is probably my favorite player on the team. Not flashy at all (it didn't seem like he scored 18 today), but he consistently does everything you want a senior ACC starter to do. Here's to you, CJ Williams! 2/4/2012 9:32:56 PM |

Quote : | "Player of the game for N.C. State and Wake Forest: C.J. Williams 0 comments
Wolfpack senior moves past high school honor and helps sink Wake Forest Ok, so Scott Wood torched Wake Forest for 23 points and reminded everyone in the RBC Center that you really shouldn’t give him anything approaching an open look. But his roommate C.J. Williams deserves some credit too. After Williams had his jersey retired at Jack Britt High School on Friday night, he dropped 18 points in the Wolfpack’s 87-76 victory.
“I had to kind of focus a little bit because I was still kind of reflecting this morning, reflecting on my high school career,” Williams said. “I had to kind of take a step forward and think about the game.”
Williams had six rebounds and three assists. But his most important contribution came when he contributed six points during a game-sealing 11-2 run in the final minutes.
“I’m a really good mid-range shooter and that’s where I wanted to get,” Williams said. “Guys were setting good screens for me and I was getting open.”" |

we're going to miss him regardless because he's our only perimeter defender
I'm really happy he was able to put it together. Shame we only get one year of him like this but it's great for his future - that mid-range game should make him a nice living in Europe and it's not completely out of the question that he could work his way onto the back of an NBA roster in a couple years 2/4/2012 10:12:54 PM |

Horner being on the Nets this year was a complete fluke, though. A bunch of other people who should've never made an NBA roster like Lance Thomas got to sit on the bench this year because of all the guys stuck in Europe/China. Plus he had some weird hometown thing going for him which is frankly ridiculous in a professional sports league but whatever, at least his dad isn't in the front office (Bobcats)

Most definitely. I basically said the same thing to him at the Red and White game, only a lil' nicer. Of course he was talking junk about how they beat my ol' HS (Western Harnett) in bball. Yeah righttttttt! LOL
Him graduating will be a major loss for the team next year, but am glad we have him this year. His mid-range jumper is ridiculously accurate. You gotta love his family's support.

guy has the best mid-range game i've seen in a very, very long time. Amazing that we never even knew that with Sid here. Hes spent the last 3 years spotting up around the 3 pt line. CJ has been a late bloomer, and a guy that I could see somehow making his way onto an NBA roster and becoming a role player (San Antonio Spurs made livings off of guys like CJ.) A good defender at 6'5(can defend multiple positions) and a Superior mid-range game. Not saying it is gonna happen, because it more than likely won't, but it would not surprise me. 2/5/2012 1:14:24 AM |

I don't like how careless he is with the ball in pressure situations. It reminds me of Marcus Melvin. CJ Williams is always good for a turnover or 2 at the end of a close game.
Other than that, he's been very good this year. 2/5/2012 10:45:08 AM |

Yep, that's been my only knock on CJW this whole year. He doesn't protect the ball when the game is tight ... just sort of leaves it out there for the swiping. Other than that, he's been the most consistent player on the team.
I also love the fact that sometimes, seemingly out of nowhere, he'll throw down vicious dunk ... like, I'll be expecting some finesse layup off the glass, and he goes and tomahawk jams it.
Leaves me thinking WTF just happened? 2/5/2012 12:08:33 PM |

Huh? All Cam did was shoot threes and dunk. The only thing they have in common is that they are good perimeter defenders.
He is definitely the glue guy on our team. I think we'll be able to replace him production-wise...but someone is going to have to step in and fill his leadership role.
I also wouldn't be surprised to see him make a splash in the NBA. He's more athletic than people give him credit for, a solid ball-handler, and has a solid jump shot (makes the open three and has a really good mid-range jumper). He has good size for a shooting guard, and defends well and rebounds well for a guard.
Wouldn't be a bad 2nd unit guy.2/6/2012 9:16:43 AM |

Despite that bennerman was known for dunking, they did show some similarities.
Both could jump out of the gym, defend well and had a decent jump shot. Also, they both showed great improvement in their senior years, so to me it seems like a reasonable comparison. 2/6/2012 10:23:36 AM |

While we will all miss Williams, Purvis will bring us something that we haven't had in a wing: a slasher that can get to the rim and create shots for himself.2/6/2012 10:32:32 AM |

Bennerman was good, but he could have been special if he ever learned to handle the ball and create his own shot.
Of course, the Princeton offense might have had stunted his growth in those areas. 2/6/2012 10:47:46 AM |

He's really stepped-up for his sr campaign. These are the averages of his first three years ('08'-'10)* compared to this year's averages:
MPG: 17 / 32 PTS: 4.2 / 12.1 FG: 43% / 53% FT: 66% / 81% 3P: 27% / 36% RBS: 2.1 / 3.8 TOs: .9 / 1.4
(i just calculated these quickly, hopefully they're right) 2/6/2012 8:21:14 PM |

^Nice improvements on FTs and 3PTs (and across the board as well). As good as Qood is from 3, we need(ed) another threat to take some pressure off of him. CJW has definitely stepped up in that regard. And his mid-range jumper is very accurate. 2/6/2012 9:29:02 PM |

If we ever get back to being good at basketball, CJ Williams type players are who we want to bring off the bench. Solid, experienced guys who can hold a lead. Alex Johnson types would never see the floor.
Hopefully Gott can make those type of upgrades, eventually 2/7/2012 9:50:28 PM |

Come on now, his improvement this year can't be solely attributed to Gottfried. Maybe some of it has to do with 3 years of experience, becoming confident, and not being as streaky? 2/8/2012 1:26:35 PM |
